wow i can't believe there aren't any comments, or even an artist listing for tammy wynette, who originally wrote/sang this song. i don't even really like country, and i love this song. it's so beautifully paradoxical, it caused an uproar with feminists in 68 when it was released, but looking at it now, it seems to be an affirmation of women's power in relationships and life. "after all, he's just a man" it also contains the often-forgotten message of endurance in love by way of actually working through issues, not just forgetting your love as soon as times get tough. stand by your man, indeed.

And 4+ years later..... I LOVE THIS SONG! Better from Tammy.

Not only stand by him and help him through his shit, but service him. Make him happy in every way you possibly can. This is not wrong or anti-feminist. Do what you can for him and he'll give back to you. It isn't perfect. But, if you stick with him, even when times get rocky, it all works out for the best.
