It's obviously about being jealous. See for yourself: all the beautiful girls are hanging out with some good-looking, probably empty-skulled player. You see a girl you've known for a long time (and liked very much for a long time) and then one of those players gets her with so much as snapping his fingers, doing nothing for it. Just because he's good-looking. You think it's unfair, and try to end that as quickly as possible. Therefore you try to keep an eye on everything.
You may call it stalking, but if you were like me (or Joe Jackson or many other guys): not handsome and in love, you would get the point of this song immediately.
