You don't need no memory" is probably another response to not looking back to the bleak past and enjoying the present time together.
could be a slight over-analyzation but rivers is way too much of a twisted genius to write songs so straight forward on green. in fact, i wouldn't rule out that every song on green could be responding to songs on 'pinkerton'...very possible.
