Lyric discussion by Coker100

I think this song is about getting into a relationship right after a previous one ends. I also think that the 'new' relationship the singer talks about is about someone who his previous love was involved with. Maybe a friend? The second relationship appears to end badly as well.

"I... I came here by day, but I left here in darkness And found you, found you on the way"

The I came here by day could be about the first relationship that the singer's in. Then the 'left here in darkness' would be after the relationship comes to an end. "And found you on the way" This is about the person that the singer gets together with after his other girl. From this line, I get that the new person he finds is someone he had around right from the start.

"And now, it is silver and silent, it is silver and cold You, in somber resplendence, I hold"

In this line he says how the old relationship is done. Silent and cold. Dead. But with the death of the old relationship, he has the new person there. The silver refrerence is kind of tricky to understand. In AFI's other song "This celluloid dream" he says "and upon leaving, all the colors turn to gray" That line is about people he loves leaving him. And what is silver but a shiny version of gray?

"Your sins into me Oh, my beautiful one Your sins into me As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer And I'll beg for forgiveness (Your sins into me) Your sins into me Oh, my beautiful one"

"Your sins into me" is fairly easy to understand. He says that he'll take all of that persons sins unto himself for them, because he loves that person so much. "As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer And I'll beg for forgiveness" I think this is where he first displays that he hurt this new person, somehow. So, because he hurt her, he's begging for forgiveness and praying that it all works out.

"Light, like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow voice rushing into me"

This is where the person he's with is ending it with him.

"As you're longing to sing"

Also, very easy to understand. The person is explaining to him why it has to be that way, but the singer see's it as her asking for freedom.

"So I... I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold I will lift up your voice as I sink"

This is where Davey concedes that she's better off without him, so he's putting her in the same gray color world as everyone else that he loved that left.

Next part is chorus, which was already explained.

"Cold in life's throws, I'll fall asleep for you"

He's saying how he thinks he's kind of bitter at the world, but he still cares enough about this person to do pretty much anything for them. I take the 'fall asleep for you' part as saying 'I would die for you'.

"Cold in life's throws, I only ask you turn As they seep... into me, oh, my beautiful one, now"

In this line, Davey displays to us that even though bitter, he still loves this person with all his heart. That even though she's leaving he's still willing to take all of her sins upon him. I think this tells us that Davey still wants to maintain some kind of relationship with the person.

I hope my interpetation of this song pleases you all. I see it this way because, I'm personally going through about that same thing right now.
