It IS about the Illiad. Check the last line of the chorus for solid evidence =).

As for the exact details of what it is about...the best theory I've heard so far -and the one I myself subscribe to- is that this is the 'vision' experienced by the seer Cassandra, daughter of the king of Troy. The song shows various scenes of the war, seen in Cassandra's dream. The short part that gave the song it's name ('And then there was silence, Just a voice from the other world Like a leaf in an icy world Memory will fade') is probably the only part of the song that takes place in the 'present', as it represents Cassandra 'waking up' from her vision.
