I feel pretty retarded at the moment. heehee. If you're curious as to why.. just head over to "Ben Folds Five" where Concept informed me how backwards I was. blush but here's my same comment in the correct place to be posting it now...

this song is great. ..About a guy's observations of a girl who is waiting for that 'special-someone' in her life, yet she is disappointed every time she thinks she might have found that person. she has lost hope in love? This song has so much significance to me it's almost crazy.. I can completely relate to the girl this song is describing. ..and so I digress.. :] : Disappointed yet again - "The clock never stops, never stops, never waits She's growing old It's getting late And so he forgot, he forgot Maybe not Maybe he's been seriously hurt Would that be worse? "

Fears life/opportunity is passing her by and it will be dull/lonely in the future: "Headlights crest the hill Shadows pass her by and out of sight Annie sees her dreams: Friday bingo, pigeons in the park "

Let-down again, thus if she had no expectations of the one she loves there would be no pain..feels she might be better off without love/companionship: "Annie waits for the last time Just the same as the last time

Annie says "You see this is why I'd rather be alone." '

My favorite line: "Headlights crest the hill Who will be the one for evermore? (ooh ooh) Annie, I could be If we're both still lonely when we're old" .. there is still hope, she is still loved by someone.. she just needs to open her eyes and realize he's right there in front of her.. but.. "Annie waits But not for me.." perhaps 'Annie' is scared from past disappointment which makes the guy who truly loves her feel like he has no chance.. and Annie can't even see the love he has for her since she has decided to put up a barrier due to past 'disappointment'.

and theeere's my 99 cents of interpretation! hehe. tsk.. I need to learn how to keep things shooooort. ;] oh well.
