Satellite

In my eyes
Like a diamond
In the sky
How I wonder...

Satellite

Strung from the moon
And the world
Your balloon
Peeping tom for
The mother station

Winter's cold
Spring erases
And the calm
Away by the storm is chasen

Everything good needs replacing
Look up, look down
All around
Hey,

Satellite

Satellite

Headlines read
Someone's secrets
You've seen
Eyes and ears have been

Satellite

dish in my yard
Tell me more,
Tell me more
Who's the king of
Your satellite castle?

Winter's cold
Spring erases
And the calm
Away by the storm is chasen

Everything good needs replacing
Look up, look down
All around
Hey,

Satellite

Rest high above the cloud;
No restriction

Television, we bounce
Round the world

And while I spend these hours
Five senses reeling

I laugh about this weatherman's
Satellite eyes

Satellite

In my eyes
Like a diamond
In the sky
How I wonder...

Satellite

Strung from the moon
And the world,
Your balloon
Peeping tom for
The mother station

Winter's cold
Spring erases
And the calm
Away by the storm is chasen

Everything good needs replacing
Look up, look down
All around
Hey,

Satellite

Rest high above the cloud;
No restriction

Television we bounce
Round the world

And while I spend these hours
Five senses reeling

I laugh about this weatherman's
Satellite eyes

General Comment:I see this song as representing the manipulated reality we all live in here on planet earth. If you do your homework on the power structure of our planet, with the psychopathic power elites that control everything (illuminati bloodlines) interbreeding dating back to ancient kings/ queens and pharos. They derive their power from something other worldly and that is where the satellite reference comes to play here. We are stuck in a 3D reality prison (5 senses) with television being a prime mind controlling device. Pay attention to weathermen, news people, politican's eyes they frequently get wild looking (reptilian). Going upon this thought you can notice Dave's references on the general theme throughout many songs, especially minarets and some of the new tunes, like mercy and Gaucho. Fear/hate being what the manipulators feed upon while love is the truth/answer

Song Meaning:Winter has been long enough and if its good enough for mother nature to take a break to retreat and then renew, its good enough for me too. I think this song is about knowing when its time for self renewing.(Dave Mathews/Satellite: Who's the king of your castle? Everything good needs replacing.)

(Dave Mathews/Satellite: Who's the king of your castle? Everything good needs replacing.) By the way, Wikipedia says the song has references to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

My Interpretation:I've decided this song has two meanings. One the one hand, I agree with everyone who's said it's an updated version of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", because the phrases "how I wonder" and "like a diamond in the sky" are direct quotes from it. Also, the album name, Under the Table and Dreaming, makes me think of being a little kid crawling around between people's legs at a big family dinner like the table is your fortress. Plus the swing ride on the cover. It's all a childhood fantasy revisited.

But also, I feel like it's a love story between the narrator and a girl, except he never explicitly names either himself or her. She's just the "satellite", someone who it seems has been in his "orbit" or on his radar for a while. "Everything good needs replacing", so she should give up her solitary roaming, which is not of itself bad, and instead be with him. He wants to know if she feels the same way, so he asks "Who is the king of your satellite castle?" And all the while he compares her to things like "diamonds in his eyes" and laughs at himself, the "weatherman", for how childishly infatuated he is.

General Comment:For me this song is about how people are often very involved in other peoples business. People are always so concerned with others instead of just minding their own business. He talks about peeping toms, he says "Headlines read Someone's secrets You've seen", and "eyes and ears have satelite dish in my yard" which all refer to people knowing other peoples lives. But at the end he says "i laugh about this weathermans satelite eyes" which is the the songs final meaning i think. Weathermen are often wrong about the weather for the week which we can all relate to. Just as the weathermen are wrong, peoples judgements of other can be wrong.

My Interpretation:I like the song. Heard it for the first time... because someone posted this on his wall. I am thinking that it may mean that there are things that happen that only satellites or something/someone high above us could see/explain/understand. The last part which says "Everything good needs replacing
Look up, look down All around" --- shows that he has come to accept his fate that he would need to move on. The next "Hey, Satellite Rest high above the cloud No restriction" just says that he wants this thing to continue on looking down/watching us and all the activities we are doing... and the last part -- "Television we bounce. Round the world. And while I spend these hours. Five senses reeling. I laugh about this weatherman's Satellite eyes" means he is wondering and laughing about the things that the satellite may know about. ... the Satellite can be God, another woman/girl, or just that--a satellite .. whatever. basic point is he knows someone/something knows everything.

At least this is my interpretation after listening and seeing the song for the first time. :))

General Comment:Yes indeed - this is Dave's "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".
    Let's have a look.

"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" = Satellite
"How I Wonder What You Area = "How I wonder"
"Up above the world so high" = "Rest high above the cloud"
"Like a diamond in the sky" = "Like a diamond In the sky"

General Comment: another way of looking at daves 12 spiritual satellites is to see them as 12 houses stacked on top each other (like climbing a ladder).

journeying or focusing on each "satellite" gives the observer more knowledge of self and the new prespective it brings to the observer.

this is the story of the bible and mankinds ascent back to heaven.

this is the spiritual transforming of mans mind to train his new senses of observation to see spiritual truths and to laugh at mere mans finite view of a small world he lives in.
