Lyrics for Knockin' on Heaven's Door as interpreted by mike

Knockin' on Heaven's Door Lyrics
Mama take this badge from me
I can't use it any more
It's getting dark too dark to see
Feels like I'm knockin' on heaven's door
Kn-kn-knockin' on heaven's door
Kn-knockin' on heaven's door
Kn-knockin' on heaven's door
Kn-knockin' on heaven's door
Mama put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them any more
That cold black cloud is comin' down
Feels like I'm knockin' on heaven's door
Kn-kn-knockin' on heaven's door
Kn-knockin' on heaven's door
Kn-knockin' on heaven's door
Kn-knockin' on heaven's door
"You just better start sniffin' your own
rank subjugation jack `cause it's just you
against your tattered libido, the bank and
the mortician, forever man and it wouldn't
be luck if you could get out of life alive"
Kn-kn-knockin' on heaven's door

orr maybe it's on the flip side and the guy came back from war and doesn't want to live with himself after what he's done.

This song is about a film I think it's BILLY THE KID....a western and that's why you see the words BADGE and GUNS... I think Billy the Kid wasn't happy anymore killing people and thta's why he wants to put his guns away.....

In Estranged, GNR also use some Dylan lyrics......walk so proud..talk so loud.....

I've been a gnr's fan for at least 15 years. really nice cover but i agree that Axl in his dreams MIGHT do this better than dylan.

When you look at the lyrics, and know about the fact its about a soldier coming back from war, its pretty simple. "Mama, take this badge from me, I don't need it any more. It's getting dark, too dark to see. I feel like I'm knocking on heaven's door". He's obviously ashamed of what he did in the war, and wants to be forgiven.

Dylan wrote this song for the movie \"Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid\" made in 1969 (look it up on imdb.com) It was played in the movie when a gunman was dying after being shot and Dylan\'s soft understated version was perfect for the movie.
GnR\'s version is something else again. It is music on a grand scale with terrific lifting guitar solos.
If your\'e an Aussie, try listening to Cold Chisel\'s live version on the Swingshift album - it sounds good too with electric piano added.

Most songs that are re-made sound shithouse, but Guns N Roses have not only stayed faithful to the song, but they've made the song sound absolutly awsome. Nice work guys!

Great comments, also!
I'm a fuckin emo chick but I love this soppy shit! Hehe the Gunners live strong.

Yes, thanks chrisb1, for telling everyone where it really came from. Dylan wrote it about a regretful gunman - however, being the great poet that he was, I think the soldier idea probably occurred to him while he was writing it and he most likely wouldn't deny its relevancy.

This is probably the worst redo I have ever heard. Most probably because it's got Axel Rose's wretched voice screaming over the top of it which sounds no better than a bag of angry cats. Guns 'n' Roses are probably the worst band I have ever witnessed come to fame. Anyone who likes GNR and this song is instantaneously a prick and with a redundant music taste and nothing to ever ever ever contribute to anyone in the world.
