i love gnr but this song is just a pathetic attempt to recapture the fame that axl missed out on in the years before the double album came out. it's also a cheap try at speed metal of the decade. if i wanted cheap forms of gnr i'd listen to my velvet revolver album.

In my opinion, one of gnr's greatest songs. It however, is not "speed metal" or "thrash metal" like some might claim. If you want thrash, buy some of metallica's earlier stuff. This is simply another hard rock song, with a very fast tempo.

Lyrically, it's basically just a political rant, just axl's way of expressing how pissed off he is with some of 1991's society. It covers his opinion of music being produced ("the east coast got the blues"), racism, sex in the media... and basically just axl's desire to fight all of this by using some good old fashioned rock n fuckin' roll... and yes, the two men in the background of the video clip are Dizzy Reed, guns n roses keyboardist, and Teddy 'Zig Zag' Andreadis, the piano/harmonica player for the Use Your Illusion tour, like GNR1234 stated.

Completely agree with schlik. aber (but), it didn't really explain the garden of eden bit, not that you need to alot of the time lyrics are made not for they're meaning, but cos they sound cool lol. But i see it could be interpreted as being lost in this new world, or even lost in what religion is right...so fock it...rock and roll! :p
But yeah awesome song, not some gimmicky 'speed metal'. ^^

The lyrics are hard to understand but I get the feeling that it's about the conventions and prohibitions in society. The country is the 'Garden of Eden' where things like illicit drugs and prostitution are prohibited, but excessive use of sex in the media and the legalisation and encouragement of alcohol drinking sort-of really contradict the government's stance...it's because everything's about money - hence why cannabis is illegal when it could provide a home-growable better alternative to a lot of the drugs that powerful corporations make their money on (pharmaceuticals, alcohol, tobacco etc.) So you could see how you could be lost in the Garden of Eden - you don't know what's right or wrong...you can use 1 bad drug but not another. And there's been quite a few scandals with anti-prostitution people being caught involved with hookers, so there's a lot of double standards and hypocrisy going on. The government was (and still is) locking lots of people for illicit drug use and cracking-down on prostitution and all that rock 'n' roll kinda stuff, but the government don't realise that the problem is a fire burning out of control - a problem they can't stop, it's [sex, drugs &] rock 'n' roll.
