Axl has said that this song is about not wanting to be in an nonreciprocating relationship, but Estranged is about being in unrequited love and accepting it.

This song is about two very close friends who are on the brink of a potential relationship. However, one of them is still in a relationship with another person. They don't want to rush into things and make it a rebound relationship, but both people know there's something there. "Nothing lasts forever, even cold November rain." The guy is saying that when the girl is fully over her current breakup, he'll still be waiting there for her, and they will be able to be together.

Ok, maybe I'm throwing my own story into this a little bit. :) But it's how I see the song.

Wow... this is exactly how im feeling... i want to send it to her right now.

My gf of two years just broke up with me a few weeks ago after doing 6 months of long distance after she left to work overseas. It just got too hard, and she says she needs to learn to be happy without me. She loves me but isnt IN love with me anymore. I dont believe it.

As much as I respect her wishes and Ive stopped fighting, I want her back - it just doesnt make any sense to me.

This song just really touched me when i read the lyrics.

This song was me and my ex boyfriends....and it describes our relationship

"But lovers always come and lovers always go. An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today" this part was how we both had relationships that just came and went.

"If we could take the time to lay it on the line, I could rest my head just knowin' that you were mine" In my situation this part means to me when we broke up I never got a straight answer on why it had to end and Id still til today like to know so I can rest my head just knowin' that I had him.

In this part of the song was the part in our relationship when he kept telling me he just needs some time apart.

And in this part of the song. We had a hard time just trying to be together with our parents and friends interfearing & the last part My ex had helped me get over a past heartbreak.

Well anyway this is how I saw this song and by listening to it I relized why this was the perfect song for our relationship.

This song is epic. In some ways I wish it remained simpler. I have an acoustic version/early demo that's really sick. But the piano on Illusion is top notch.

finally figured out what its about,its about a couple who love each other but she isnt sure she's ready to commit and is restraning her love and the other just needs to know where he stands and he understands what she's going throughand how some people need some time on there own to confirmthere feelings etc and beneath all of whats going on they know how deep there love is. The november rain represents the troubles in there relationship and its not going to last forever and some relationships break up and others last but it's worth trying. What a beautiful song im sure mayy can relate to because thats the reality of giving your heart and self to somebody you love there's always be risks but nothing will necessarily happen and could be a match made in heaven.

I think this song is absolutely incredible. My thoughts on the meaning of it is that it's about this guy who is in love with this girl who loves him as well but puts a wall put because she's had her heart broken before. And, he just wants all of her forever but she's holding back so much. He doesn't want to give up but, he's feeling hopeless and if she doesn't show how she feels, he will have to walk in the cold November Rain. He knows nothing lasts forever but, he wants to hold onto this feeling because it feels so right. He's madly in love. He's feeling all these different crazy feelings.

One of the most depressing songs of all time. However, it's magical.
I think it's about a couple about to end their relationship. Even though they love each other, they realise that they have to take different paths because they don't want the same things anymore...

Everytime i hear this song i cry or get really sad. its so emotional, gets you every time. i think the video according to some producers is about the girl getting shot on their day of their mariage and having the funerals on the same day of thier marriage.

I think there's a lot of meaning in just those two lines. When he says "wouldn't time be out," he's saying it in the sense of "time's out", or "I'm out of time", or "I have no time left." So, another way to say it would be:

"But if you could heal a broken heart, wouldn't that mean that I have no time left to charm you?"

The narrator's speaking to a woman who's been hanging out with broken-hearted guys a lot. She's been hoping that she can "heal a broken heart", or cheer up one of her broken-hearted male friends. She's hoping that, if she cheers a guy up, that would lead to some kind of romance with that guy.

But she really can't heal any of their broken hearts by herself. It's never possible for one person to heal the emotions of another person so easily. So the narrator is saying, "If you could heal someone's broken heart, then you'd already have something going on with one of those other guys, and then there'd be no point in me trying to charm you." But, in reality, she CAN'T heal those guys, and so she DOESN'T have any romance going on with them, so the narrator still has a good chance with her. So the narrator is basically telling her to be more open to his charm. :)

This is such an amazing song!!
To me it's about this girl I love and she just wont admit that she feels something for me. The candle in the rain for me is about how I can't hold on forever. It seems she's just afraid but as Axel says "I know that you can love me when there's no-one else to blame."
