Lyrics for November Rain as interpreted by mike

November Rain Lyrics
When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain
We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away
If we could take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
just knowin' that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
in the cold November rain
Do you need some time.. on your own
Do you need some time.. all alone
Everybody needs some time.. on their own
Don't you know you need some time.. all alone
I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you
Sometimes I need some time.. on my own
Sometimes I need some time.. all alone
Everybody needs some time.. on their own
Don't you know you need some time.. all alone
And when your fears subside
and shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
when there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
we still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
even cold November rain
Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one

Axl got inspiration from a poem which was about a mans wife who commited suicide. Lovely song.

the song is about seperation from a loved one, a similar theme to estranged. he compares living/being alone to walking in cold november rain. the line "and its hard to hold a candle....." means its hard to be happy when youre alone, the candle is happiness. i love the drums on this song, and the solo and guitar before the outro are really cool.

thomasroberts - if november rain were shorter, there would be no november rain!!! so shut the fuck up!!!! anyways, killer of a song. it's a bit confusing though - he says "everybody needs some time on their own", then says "everybody needs somebody" later in the song. so he's basically saying the opposite things (???)

not critising here, but has anyone noticed that Axl is like Elton John the 2nd in this song?

1) when has Axl Rose played the piano?

2) what are his glasses all about?

3) the lyrics - "it's hard to hold a candle in the cold november rain". these tie in with the lyrics in the song Candle In The Wind - if you hold a candle in the wind, it will blow out. if you hold a candle in the rain, it will blow out. the point being the relationship is the candle, and it is being blown out.

how do the lyrics connect with the video? i am not exactly sure. but i have a rough idea... in the video, Axl is getting maried with his g/f. during these scenes, he is singing "But lovers always come and lovers always go and no ones really sure who's letting go today". he's signifing that the relationship will one day end, but he's not sure if it will be him or her to end it. at the end of the video, his g/f is dead. he's now singing "don't ya think that ya need somebody, don't ya think that ya need someone, everybody needs somebody, you're not the only one". i think he's trying to say to her that she can't go alone. he's saying that everyone needs someone to comfort them in times of trouble.

btw people if you haven't already then listen to the GnR song "Estranged". it is november rain the 2nd. just as good!

not quite, best song GnR's ever did, but not the greatest song ever, that would go to something like Stairway to Heaven, Baba O'Riley, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, Bohemian Rhapsody or Johnny B. Goode

November Rain is based on a short story "Without You" by James Dell which is a collection of short stories from "The Language of Fear." but it's important to realize that it's only part of a video trilogy "Don't Cry" and "Estranged" being the other two. At the end of the video for November Rain there is a credit saying the video is based on the short story "Without You" by Del James. The problem is, "Without You" is a short story in a collection called "The Language of Fear." that is hard as hell to find and if you can find it be prepared to pay a small fortune for it. It is quite an interesting little read and when you do read this story you can clearly see the connection between the songs lyrics and the video.

What can i say?! easily one of the best songs ever, with a kicks ass solo! (Man, it's so fucking incredible!)
And stariblu312! Damn you're right!

I just wonder why GNR is so fucking under-rated?! Maybe that's because Axl is a fucking dumbass, but that's not a good reason! i mean he made himself a disgusting musician by insulting black people, talking shit about Iranians(i'm a persian),ranting about everything during his interviews and etc, BUT for god's sake accept that they were extraordinary musicians.
And now, just look at the number of comments by considering all of these mentions:

Double talking jive: 3 comments (I can't sleep at nights if i don't listen to this song!)
Used to love her: 7 comments (the best from the LIES)
Dust N' Bones: 5 comments (i fucking can't believe it)
Breakdown: 9 comments (one of the best jobs ever!)

Someone tell me why???

This song In my opinion, is up there with SWTH or Jeremy, or any other amazing epic song, this song can run with the best of them... and yes Axl is a dooche.... its a shame that because he's such a dooche he had to go and waste such unique songwritinig styles between him and slash...

I'd have to say it's about two people only half-loving each other. You can't mistake the line, "If we could take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head." For whatever reason both people are kind of holding back and it's ruining things, if they'd only put themselves out there it would be worth it in the end.

I was with a girl for almost 3 years in a relationship like that. I heard this song on the radio when I was in the car with her and it smacked some sense into me, and I broke up with her soon after. Best decision I ever made.

ok i'm probably gonna get blasted for saying this, and keep in mind i've loved this band since i was about 11 years old and it's still my favorite band to this day, but...this is not one of my favorite GnR songs. i don't think it's even in my top ten. as long as it is they could have had another verse in there instead of saying don't you think that you need somebody a million times. that being said i really do like the part that goes:

And when your fears subside
and shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
when there's no one left to blame

oh and someone posted something forever ago that said something about since when does axl play the piano? i'm pretty sure i read that he played the piano from when he was a kid.

p.s. estranged blows this song out of the water

This is one of my 5 favourite songs. It's so deep and emotional and it always makes me melacholic. I love this song whenever I feel sad or nostalgic about a relationship or someone or about life in general I like to listen to this song. Its a constant reminder of how relationships are.. good moments, love , sorrow and pain. It's a depressing song because it's realistic about how things can turn out to be in relationship but also with a very optimistic twist at the end...''So never mind the darkness we still can find a way 'Cause nothin' lasts forever, even cold November rain''. Stating that nothing can be lost if there is hope and nothing can break completely cause true love, can overcome everything ;)

Love that outro solo... the whole outro is the main reason why I like this song.

i think this song is about a guy who loves a girl and knows that the girl loves him too, but she's denying it-"when i look into your eyes, i can see a love restrained." he's asking her to give in to her feelings before its too late-"cause nothing lasts forever and we both know hearts can change." and the guy cannot take it for long. he wishes to be hers. i can definately relate to this song

this song is about axl getting married to the girl he loves things start to go wrong they have a fight and that 'he needs sometime on his own' and stopped talkin to each other and then he is going to make up with her but she dies. shows a softer side to GNR the november rain represents that even 'cold november rain' doesnt last forever' and the slash solo at the end is one of his best ever

I think it's about a guy who is suspecting his girlfriend is either about to break up with him (maybe because she fell for another guy) or that they had already broken up (possible because she loves someone else)

I think that the guy is having trouble letting go of the girl and will do anything he possibly can to keep her. He is telling her that he understands what she is goin through and that he knows she doesnt feel the same for him anymore but in his heart she is his true love. He is saying too that no matter what happens he will always be there for her and if they do "break up" he will be waiting for her always if she still loves him or wants him back...

Also the "but if you could heal a broken heart" bit might be reffering to that if she stays with him and still loves him she will be healing HIS broken heart or preventing him from having a broken heart.

AANNNDDD that nomatter what happens the bad times wont last forever and if worst come to worst and they do "break up" he will get over it but he still cares for her and it will comepletely crush him inside and he will be "alone in the cold november rain" but he has the capability of moving on.

Phew... I have to stop myself before i go crazy
ALL in all this is the absolute #1 song of all time
I love the passion of it all, and the lyrics just completely capture me and just WOW y'know...wow
I wanna cry every single time i hear it... it just really makes me wander off... *sigh* love...

Its sooo amazing... Also can't get over what an incredibly awesome voice Axl has... a lot of people hate his voice but i cannot see how they could at all he's just so talented and by far my #1 hero of all time.... even tho yea he cant be a stupid asshole... GOTTA LOVE IT

and Slash's solo's... WOW again
*applause*

November Rain is without a question my favorite song by Guns n’ Roses…I like many of Guns n’ Roses songs but November Rain in my opinion is their best

Slash’s solo is killer…the lyrics can’t get any better….and the message of the song is definitely reached by the end
This is just one of those songs that will never get old…

I think I’m just going to tell you what I think the song is about by just dissecting each part…lol

When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same

It’s about a girl and guy…a relationship that has always had bad timing in my opinion….because as of now they are not together despite what they are both feeling
He knows when he looks into her eyes…that its there…that their love…their connection, that the chemistry between them is still there…but their love is retrained…they are both holding back…either because something is holding them back…or because their not ready to give each other their hearts…which a very scary thing to do
But he tells her...he feels the same…even a simple hug…or a holding in the hand...he wants her to believe that his feelings for her are real…they are true…

'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain

To me “November Rain” is the tough times…the hard times in a relationship…those days where it feels like your relationship is falling through the cracks and you don’t really know what happened to it
The candle is very symbolic…just how it is in all of Elton Johns song…the candle is the relationship and the fire is the passion and sparks within the relationship…its hard to make a relationship work when the timing is off…something is forcing this couple to not be together…something maybe outside of the relationship…therefore they cant be together…their fire…their passion…their sparks can’t ignite in the cold November rain

We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain
But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away

I think for a long time they’ve had their feelings for one another…they have had to deal with pain of not being with one another…they are both hiding their feelings by going to other people…I think that’s what it means when it says “lovers come and lovers always go”…people come and go…people whom you think are “the one”… who you convince you love just to make the pain go away…but when it comes down to the facts…to how your heart feels then you know its just all BS because you know your heart is not in it

If we could take the time to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
just knowin' that you were mine
All mine

If they put their feelings on the line…if they act truthful for once…then all will be good…he can lay his head back knowing they are together…knowing she belongs with him…and he belongs with her…that’s what he wants…he wants to be truthful, he wants to lay it on the line…he wants all to be well

So if you want to love me
then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
in the cold November rain

He tells her…is she wants to be with him then don’t hold back b/c he feels the exact same way...but he tells her other wise…I will keep on walking in the November Rain where their timing is just off

Do you need some time.. on your own
Do you need some time.. all alone
Everybody needs some time.. on their own
Don't you know you need some time.. all alone
I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you
Sometimes I need some time.. on my own
Sometimes I need some time.. all alone
Everybody needs some time.. on their own
Don't you know you need some time.. all alone

This sorta reminds me of when their relationship is on hold…not only being a couple…but friends as well…I think despite they were never together they were still friends and they were still close
But these lines…to me signify they couldn’t even do that…they needed some time…to be alone….to try to mend their broken heart and their mind by being on their own

And when your fears subside
and shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
when there's no one left to blame

I think this shows her realizing her feelings…her realizing life is too short and she must seize the day…her fears will slowly subside of giving her heart away to the person she loves…but “shadows still remain” meaning there will still be doubts…doubts can’t go away…but he knows that they can do it…that they can give their heart to each other because they trust one another…they both know they can love each other when they start realizing what they want…and go after what they want…I mean…

So never mind the darkness
we still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
even cold November rain

This is my favorite part of the entire song…
He tells her to forget about the shadows…the darkness…the doubts…and lays it on the line…that they will find a way…together…they will be there for one another

And my favorite line…it goes back to the first part of the song…he says “cause nothing lasts forever” but this time he says “EVEN cold November rain” … I think that is so symbolic…
He is telling her that the wrong timing…that the tough times…that them not being together WON’T last forever…that their “love restrained” wont be restrained anymore…that their love will make it though the end…I think that line offers so much hope…because those bad days…those bad times…they don’t always last…

I love the ending too….

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one

They are talking about each other…they need one another…even though time goes on…it will always be about them in the end

Ok…I’m done…that’s my take on the song…

I think it’s a great song…it really plays with your emotions…its very sad but hopeful in the end “cause nothing lasts forever even cold November rain”…it’s a really beautiful song…I don’t get how there are some hard core Guns n’ roses fans that just flat out hate this song…I don’t really get that…I think the song is perfect

but then again...there is not one song that has ever been recorded or that will ever be recorded that is universally liked by everyone...its just not possible....it will never happen
