i think this song talks about a divorce. But the couple has to break up. they don't want it. he says "i'm still loving you baby" so he doesn't want to break up. he has to. the girl bursts into tears and he's by her side, trying to wipe away the tears and the pain. this song is so beautiful. one of my fav songs. and axl rose's voice is so deep and sweet. i wish i could sing like this. i've heard the song a million times but I still love it. I don't think that songs like this could ever be forgotten. it can't be...

The mod and level of sorrow is far beyond a common break up. I think it's about death, definitely. The things he says about the heaven above. Meaning that there is where he will be. I don't know, but from the singers view he might know that he is going to die, and that she'll hear the song/letter too late, when he is gone already, and that she'll have to carry on. But as someone else said, its reversed psychology makes you cry even more :) I think a lot of life when I hear it, knowing that all sorts of tragic things are happening to people around the world. I feel sorry for the ones that left like that, in sorrow.

To me, this song seems to be about suicide. "You'll feel better tomorrow" Just makes me think, make it through tonight and everything will be better. I mean, the girlfriend/boyfriend definately fits, but i had lost someone close to suicide just after I heard this song, so to me its about depression and suicide. "I'll still be thinking of you
And the times we had... baby" gives me that impression too. I love this song forever, its just beautiful. It gives me such a strong feeling.

Ok.. so I know this song IS probably about a relationship.. but.. IDK I can't help but relate it to GRADUATION or something like that.. I know it sounds stupid but just think for a second:

It sorta gives me the impression that a guy is leaving his girlfriend behind, maybe due to touring or from circumstance beyond his control. The theme of the video is based around death and rebirth, so maybe he's signifying he needs to move on, and the rebirth will be a good thing.

It means to me that he is dedicating it to a girlfriend who he feels is not longer in love with him, so in a way he undertands that and makes things easier for her. I believe this is so because he's been through that before, he's been the one to end the relationship, so he already knows what the gf is feeling.

That is sort of what I think this sojng is about. :(

I was never into rock before my previous/most meaningfull boyfriend. It was my first serious relationship.
The day we broke up, I was in school playing with his Ipod durring study. I came upon this song as the only Guns N roses song in his Ipod.
I knew that I liked Sweet Child O mine so I decided to take a listen to see if I'd like this song. I did. I listened to it about 4 times in a row. It was so sad.
Later that day my boyfriend and I were talking hapily in startbucks, Then suddenly after no warning, his words "I think I like you more as a REALLY REALLY good friend" rang out and It hit me like a bullet. That song came to mind just then. He explained how he really didn't want a relationship right now BLA BLA BLA but he still loves me.. yada yada yada. I had heard it all before on soap operas. I went home crying, I downloaded this song and listened to it nonstop for two weeks.

This song is pretty much saying how He doesn't want to break up, but he has to because either his feelings have changed [he likes her more as a friend or something] and he will always love her but they can't stay together or else they'll be living a lie.]

Okay, okay, okay check this out, here is what this song is about:

This song is about a man cheating on his lady. Plain and simple.
He is telling her not to feel sad now that she has found out because he really does care for her (even though he cheated on her) and he does not want her to feel sad.

He tells her,

“I know how you feel inside I've
I've been here before
Somethin's changin' inside you
And don't you know”

He is just saying that he knows what she’s going though because someone has done it to him in the past and now that this has happened something is changing inside of her and now that she had seen it she’ll never be the same. And what is that something you ask? Haha… umm… well this lady is opening her eyes to the harsh realities of life. Ha especially life in rock n roll or punk rock where true “love” is almost impossible to find because men (and women) in theses scenes tend to be ohhhhhhhhhh how should I put this… adventurous and go around with different b!tcHe$ and ho3s.

And why does he say,

“there's a heaven above you baby”

This is because he knows that she was being truthful and faithful to him and giving him her love while he wasn’t doing the same… in other words he being a sinner and she wasn’t so there is a heaven awaiting her while idk what for him…
As for the rest of the lyrics… they go along with this conclusion about what this song is about.

… and if you still don’t think I’m right just look at the alternate lyrics that were made for this song

She wanted “true love” like the kind we see in childhood movies but that’s not what he gave her in return so that’s not what she had. Everyone knew what was going on that’s why people were talking and it’s driving her mad.

And when you're in need of someone
My heart won't deny you
So many seem so lonely
With no one left to cry to baby”

He really did love her at first and wanted to be faithful but he fell into temptation with those “voices” (those voices were probably his friends asking him why he would just want to be faithful to one girl with he could have all off these other dames without any commitment) he heard and that is when a part of that love died.
So many seem lonely with no one left to cry to… that is because everyone around him is the same way he is and that life style only brings loneliness at the end.

i think he wasn't cheeting his lady constantly, that that happend just once, and he knows it meant nothing to him, and he still loves his girlfriend.
