It started as a poem for his, at the time girlfriend, Erin Everly, he was really in love with her.... I think they divorced within a month after they where married :)

Yeah, you are all right. It WAS about Erin Everly, Axl said so. It is about being so incredibly in love with this women. However, it takes a twist at the end when Axl asks, "Where do we go now?" He's having doubts about it and thinking that there's nothing else for them to do. They've done everything together and it seems like he's hinting at that it's time for it to end. They had good, loving times but it's time to just let it rest at that before it gets bad (which, inevitably, happened in his relationship with Erin).

This song is definitely one of my all time favorites! My favorite part is the end when he says, "where do we go now?" it's almost like there's two parts to the song, the first part where he's all happy and talking about how amazing this girl is, but then at the end, where he's kind of confused about where the relationship is going. I also love love love the guitar in this song. it kicks major ass as well as the lyrics!

I forgot to comment on the guitar in this song, which is fucking amazing. I love how the solo slowly speeds up and its at a blazing speed. Slash is a guitar god.

Know what really confuses me? Axl Rose is a really big ass cause he misses all of his concerts so they cancel them, and people have these huge riots. And then the next day people love him. I like his hair...awesome. And the songs too...

From what I understand this song was written about Erin Everly who was Axl's girlfriend at the time. It wasn't actually going to make it onto Appetite for Destruction at first because they felt it was incomplete. Rumour has it that Slash played that opening solo whilst kidding around but the rest of the band loved it so they used it and the song got on. That's probably fan-made BS though.

Axl and Erin were on and off for atleast 8 years from what I know. This is reflected in alot of GN'R songs. I'm not certain... but I think You Could Be Mine, November Rain, Back Off Bitch, Don't Cry, 14 Years... practically all GN'R's love songs... were about Erin. It shows how they broke up... got back together... broke up... got back together... and so on and so forth... over the years.

I kind relate to this song: I have a friend who I truly adore whose description fits the description Axl makes in this song. I would sing it to her if I could sing. But I'll learn to play it on guitar. :D

This is my all time favourite song! what i would give to be that girl! the words totally make sense, if i stared too long i'd probably break out and cry. i have felt like this, mainly towards axl and duff but this song just makes me turn to jelly.

the song is for erin everly. he wrote it after the break up.... sorta paying her back for the times they had together. prehaps an attempt to say sorry..... but, erin is a lucky girl, everytime she hears this song, she will know that its about her. wouldn't that be cool?

this is a cool song and the opening is kick ass. G 'N' R is god. As for the Weird Al guy...dude, weird al sucks. hes a washed up old dirtbag who makes money off of other people. Hes no where close to a legend like Guns N Roses.

Look, this song is badass, the lyrics dont MEAN anything though. Axle is just a pretty boy popping out some lyrics that could've been written by some one else. Just realize that listening to the song is incredible, no analyzing needed! Axle at the mike and Slash and the guitar....Best combo since Robert and Jimmy.

You little teenage homophobes, don't go and start calling me a faggot when I say I like this song.
The opening guitar is great, the vocals are pretty nice. But my favorite part of the whole song is the kickass minute long guitar solo at the end. That's one of the longest I've ever heard. And it's awesome.

Has anyone noticed that in the video for this song, all the band have their girlfriends there except for the sad bastard Izzy who has his dog with him. I love guns'n'roses but this just seems really pathetic to me! Great song though!

This song happened on mistake. The opening riff was supposed to sound like a circus tune. The lyrics were written, like many gnr songs, on a pizza box. thank you
