Lyrics for Sweet Child O' Mine as interpreted by mike

Sweet Child O' Mine Lyrics
She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where evrything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stared too long
I'd probably break down and cry
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
Where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go
Sweet child o' mine

this is a brilliantly written song
the harmony of the electric and bass guitars fit with the lyrics perfectly
few songs reach this level of sheer awsomeness
hate me if you will but i love the bass line best

I actually remember hearing that this song was written about Axl's ex-wife (that lasted only a couple months) Erin Everly. Slash hates playing this one.

Before I looked up the actual meaning behind the song, I was convinced that he was talking about a little girl, I thought that it could have been a friend's child or a neice or something. I really thought that when he looked at her and saw his life as a child, and it was such an emotional experience that he wrote a song about it. I wish that was the case, it's more interesting.

In Slash's autobiography he tells how this song was originated... Slash was sitting in the living room of the apartment he shared with Duff, Izzy, Steven, and Axl, messing around, playing a riff... Izzy told him to keep playing and added a rhythm section while Duff added in the bass. Axl, who was upstairs wrote lyrics as an ode to Erin Everly, his then girlfriend and, later, his first wife. While going over demos with a potential producer, Spencer Proffer, Spencer said they need to add a dramatic breakdown... all the members were stumped and Axl muttered to himself "Where do we go?... where do we go now?... where do we go?" Spencer told him to just sing that and the song "Sweet Child o' Mine" was born as the final song to GNR's first album "Appetite for Destruction"

Someone from my band class died earlier this year, and as I was going home from the funeral, this song popped up on my iPod and for some reason it made me think that it was a memorial song. It would explain the "Where do we go now" lyric.

While I do know this song's meaning has been determined, I thought I'd throw it out there

Axl's vocal range is mad! He is awesome! So is Slash. I tried learning this song on electric guitar and it's the hardest song I've learned! GNR rocks!

You are all wrong people. Axl wrote this as a love letter for his girlfriend Erin (she was in the video). The original version of this song is about 8 mins. and has 4 verses but they made it shorter. The guitar intro in this song was just a joke made by Slash and Axl liked it so it stayed and the line "Where do we go now?" was made by Axl when they are throwing some ideas on how to end up the song.

Maybe it's just me, but something about writing a song about YOUR GIRLFRIEND and calling it Sweet CHILD O' Mine seems rather degrading. Not that I've ever been a fan of Axl's blatant sexism, but this sealed the deal for me.

the part where it says where do we go was accidental
gnr were recording and hadnt thought about that part of the song
an axl started shouting "where do i go now?"
to himself and the others
there manager stopd them and said "why not just sing that in the song?"
so they did
n its great
go axl random stupid mind!

This song is so amazing - the lyrics are adorable. Seeing how it's by Guns N' Roses, it's definitely about a female. But this is my mom's song for me. (: When I was little, she'd always come tuck me into bed and - since she can't sing to save her life, bless her heart - she'd quote the lyrics to me. They fit really well, too; I'm blue-eyed, and I'm definitely my mom's whole life. "She's got eyes of the bluest skies as if they thought of rain. I hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain. Sweet child of mine, sweet love of mine." Of course, since I was young, I didn't realize what the hell she was babbling on about til I hit my teenage years. (;

This song is personal to me too. Back in the summer after 7th grade, which was the 05-06 school year, a boy I was in band with died. At my school the next year, they played this song in memory of him. So, when I hear this song, I always feel really sad and I dedicate this osng to him.

This song is a little more personal for me. It was the #1 song on the day I was born. My whole life my dad has always told me that this was mine and his song, because whenever he would hear it, he would think of me, his sweet child. So, as I have no disbelief that it is about his ex-wife, that is just what it means to me.

This song to me is about a guy who is in love with a women that reminds him of his first love. The love that was going to last forever and overcome anything but ended. So now he has this new love that makes him happy but is also brings back are the pain and happiness of his first love and he is conflicted on wether or not this love is the best thing for him.

I did not hear that slash did not like it, but instead came up with it as a joke and either intially did not realize its potential or had no faith that something would come from it.
