Lyrics for Edge Of The Earth as interpreted by flashflatliner

Edge Of The Earth Lyrics
You know enough to know the way
Six billion people just one name (I found)
I found tomorrow in today
Apocalyptic and insane, my dreams will never change

You wanna be the one in control
You wanna be the one who's alive
You wanna be the one who's old
It's not a matter of luck, it's just a matter of time

Stand out on the edge of the earth

Stand out on the edge of the earth
Dive into the center of fate
Walk right inside of the gun
Look into the new future's face

I know you know enough to say
I know you know enough to play a game

You wanna be the one in control
You wanna be the one who's alive
You wanna be the one who's old
It's not a matter of luck, it's just a matter of time

Stand out on the edge of the earth
Dive into the center ??
Walk right inside of ??
Look into the still future space

Stand out on the edge of the earth
Dive into the center of fate
Walk right inside of the gun
Look into the new future's face

(Stand out on the edge of the earth)

Stand out on the edge of the earth
Stand out on the edge of the earth
(Look into the new future's face)
Stand out on the edge of the earth
Dive into the center of fate
Walk right inside of the gun
Look into the new future's face

This song is great.

Maybe I am looking into this song wrong or too deeply, but what Jared means when he does this song is writing your own destiny or deciding your own fate.

It's how you make your own future.

I think it's a generation song. Every generation is looked on by the previous one as a "social problem" and stuff like that, and I think this song is about getting in their faces and saying "we are the next leaders of this world, you've had your time, this is ours, accept it."

They write their songs based on the struggle of every day human life. The stuggle of living of relationships of finding your own existance. They are one of my favorate bands ever. They have something so great i know it will last forever.

I believe this song is about pushing past your psyichal limits to try and reach your goals, and to be what you want to be, to take control of the future and make it happen, make your dreams come true. Thats what I believe this song is about anyway.

I choose to believe all their songs are about the apocalypse. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it. Besides, I just love anything apocalyptic, so it enhances my satisfaction with the band.
I watched an interview where Jared specifically said that they don't write songs about relationships, that many other people out there were doing that, and doing a real good job of it, and that they'd rather write about better things. See? The apocalypse!

I'd have to disagree with Bazal's statement. I would have agreed with it earlier on, but nowadays I find the whole generation thing rather amusing, as well as a little annoying. I read in a paper something that summed it up perfectly I thought. It went something along the lines of "Someone needs to tell the youth of each generation that older people don't all have some collective amnesia that makes them forget they were also young once. Being young is not a destination, just a particularly rocky stage on a much larger journey". If anyone wonders, I'm 22, so I'm not a complaining old man but probably a bit older than some people. And remember one day, we'll all be the 'previous generation' cursing the new one for their strange ways and lack of respect. Such is the cycle of life. ;)

I was watching a Full Metal Panic AMV for this song and it had a suitably apocalyptic/war theme to it so that leads me to feel this song is written along those lines. These days, war and apocalypse seem to go hand in hand.

Although the apocalyse may be a theme, I don't that's what the core subject of the song is...

He clearly mention's about looking to the future, about making big choices, taking risks ("walk right inside of the gun" and trying to make your own destiny and not letting fate decide - "you wanna be the one in control"

Agree with me!

Yeah the whole album is about apocalypse, I'm sure of it...and I think Jared hopes to be one of the chosen ones. I would join him, he seems like a smart guy hehe

"Dive into the center of fate
Walk right inside of the gun
Look into the new future's face"

Yes you could say it has appocalyptic meaning. Specifically when he says like into the gun, its the futures face. It means the future is full of wars and guns, death and destruction.
And you want to be in control, but the truth is your not. Walk out and face the future, and choose yor destiny.

Yeah, does take on an apocalyptic theme, but I don't think that's what it's primarily about... probably more along the lines of there are so many distractions in the world, like drugs, violence, sex, etc., that it's so easy to get thrust into. There are people that have already been absorbed in the chaos, in the lines "You wanna be the one..." and such and such. And through everything, everything you want to do won't just appear in front of you because you have all those obstacles.

"It's not a matter of luck, it's just a matter of time."

Completely sums it up. No matter what you do or how you do it, time will always be there. The chorus brings on the fact that you should be different and do whatever you feel like, and try to stay away from all the horrible crap. By standing out on the edge of the earth, diving into the center of fate, walking into the sight of the gun, and looking into the new future's face, you can catch a glimpse of what life will be like and how YOU can change it all.

So yeah, being different with your choices is the main saying of the song.

This is the one of the songs that I have quite clear ideas about.

"Stand out on the edge of the earth
Dive into the center of fate
Walk right inside of the gun
Look into the new future's face"

Really, I think this is about being cast out on the edge of society. Only then will you gain true insight into the world, by not being a part of it you can see clearly what is going on. Everyone gets carried along,
but some people have to stand up and make a difference.

!You wanna be the one in control
You wanna be the one who's alive
You wanna be the one who's old
It's not a matter of luck, it's just a matter of time"

I think this is about how you are the only person who can see the wrong in the world and wanting to do something about it. It tells you to be patient because soon, your time will come.

"You know enough to know the way
Six billion people just one name (I found)
I found tomorrow in today
Apocalyptic and insane, my dreams will never change"

The world population for the year 2000 was about 6 billion. The line obviously talks about these people being put in one group and named, "the world".

The line "i found tomorrow in today"
Leto thinks of himself as someone who is before his time, someone who's ideas are to advanced for our world.

On the whole, 30stm first album is about the colapse of humanity.

LONG LIVE JARED LETO! xD lol

well, this song could have many meanings, although they probably intended their one to be somewhere along the lines of the apolalyptic theme.

anotther possible meaing i thought of was...
at the beginning of the song, in the first few lines..

You know enough to know the way
(all you have is what you know, so trust what you beleive in)
Six billion people just one name (I found)
(he could be talking about his love for a girl, ie he only sees her, amoungst the crowd)
I found tomorrow in today
(he sees this girl in her future, or wants to anyway, your choices now shape your future)
Apocalyptic and insane, my dreams will never change
(the girl he is in love with is bad for him, "apocalyptic and insane" him being with her will never work, thus the insanity of him dreaming of them being together")

possible meaning, no? but it only really fits with those lines

I think this song is about living your life to the fullest, and taking advantage of every opportunity. it's obvious from the chorus and the part just before the chorus.

"You wanna be the one in control, you wanna be the one who's alive"
"It's not a matter of luck, it's just a matter of time" (perhaps saying that we will all die eventually and there is no way of predicting when, so you might as well just live)
"Stand out on the edge of the earth, dive into the centre of fate, walk right in the sight of a gun, look into this new future's face" - telling people to live their lives to the fullest, take risks, enjoy themselves, and the new future's face is this new outlook on life.
