Lyrics for Chinese Rock as interpreted by black_cow_of_death

Chinese Rock Lyrics
Somebody calls me on the phone
Say hey-hey-hey is Arty home
You wanna take a walk
You wanna go cop
You wanna go get some Chinese rock

I'm livin' on a Chinese rock
All my best things are in hock
I'm livin' on a Chinese rock
Everything is in the pawn shop

The plaster fallin' of the wall
My girlfriend cryin' in the shower stall
It's hot as a bitch
I should've been rich
But I'm just diggin' a Chinese ditch

Written by DEE DEE and JOHNNY THUNDERS (Johnny Thunders and Heartbreakers) its all about being hooked on Chinese Rock (HEROIN) and the bull that heroine abuse and addiction brings to ones life and how it screws you up. The Johnny Thunders version to me is much better, mor raw and he was a bigger junkie so more feeling in it.

Actually is wasn't written by Johnny Thunders at all. Most of it was written by Dee Dee Ramone, another 2 verses was written by Richard Hell who was, of course, also in the Heartbreakers and also a junkie.

ya "speratical" is right. its richard and dee dee who wrote it. then richard hell left the heartbreakers and johny thunders still recorded it and so everyone thought it was a heartbrekers song which wasnt too good for dee dee, hating johnny and all.

hahah it scares me i know all this but i swear its true., its not some shit i read in a magazine or anything. its from a great book:
Please Kill Me (the Uncencored Oral History of Punk) -Legs McNeil

ah, this song makes me sad. its even more sad when sid vicious does a cover of it... the whole verse "the plaster fallin off the wall..." is so appropriate for him. deedee ramone was a lyrical genius.

I think it was Marky that said it was Dee Dee who wrote it, and Johnny Thunders was just in the room at the time. The Ramones played it, didn't like it and gave it to Johnny. When Phil Spector got with them for End of the Century, it made sense to record it again, and it turned out great.

Arty is a reference to Arturo Vega, just thought I'd throw that out there. Also what happened was Dee Dee and Richard Hell wrote it, Dee Dee took it home and showed it to the rest of the guys, but they refused to play it because it was about drugs

Great heroin song. Dee dee regretted writing it coz he didn't want to write an 'ode to smack'. There are plenty of odes to smack already, but this has gotta be one of the best.

Dee Dee Ramone wrote this. Richard Hell wrote, like, one line...Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan had dick all nothing to do with writing this song. this song was written in response to Richard Hell wanting to write a song about heroin that was better than the Velvet Underground's song "Heroin."

in Dee Dee's biography, Dee Dee talks about this song:
"When Jerry (Nolan, of the Heartbreakers) was over at my place one day, we did some dope and then I Played him my song, and he took it with him to a Heartbreakers' rehearsal. When Leee Childers started managing them, and got them a record deal, "Chinese Rocks" was their first single of LAMF."

"...it was dedicated to the boys on Norfolk Street, I can understand that, but the credits are false. Johnny Thunders ranked on me for fourteen years, trying to make out like he wrote the song. What a lowlife maneuver by those guys! By then, I was really too fucked up to care."

"they refused to play it because it was about drugs" Gee, I wonder who made THAT decision!
I agree with gabbagabbaheygirl about "poor Dee Dee;" after his childhood, the poor guy probably never even had a chance. If it hadn't been for the band, would he even have lived to 40? 30? I salute him for doing as well as he could and for staying off heroin for so many year before his passing. We'll never forget you, Dougie.
