Lyrics for Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment as interpreted by black_cow_of_death

Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment Lyrics
I was feeling sick
I was loosing my mind
I heard about these treatments
From a good friend of mine
He was always happy
Smile on his face
He said he had a great time at the place.
Gimme gimme shock treatment.
Peace and love is here to stay
And now I can wake up and face the day
Happy happy happy all the time
Shock treatment, I'm doing fine.

"Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment" was written by Dee Dee and Johnny with help from Joey. Joey used to date a girl in a mental institution who didn't know who he was after her shock treatments. The song was probably inspired musically by the 1969 bubblegum song "Gimme Gimme Good Lovin'" by Crazy Elephant.

first off, no single band can be credited with starting punk. If you're going to go all the way back to the beginnings, then you'd have to start with influences like the Dada which was a movement in the early 1900's that supported anarchy and provocation and such. After that, you're shooting for the beatniks. Besides, bands that were influences to the movement were bands like the Velvet Underground and the New York Dolls. They weren't punk rock, just influences. The New York Dolls were one of the reasons that the Ramones got together in the first place. And whoever said that Americans don't get punk has no idea what he's talking about. American punk predates British punk. even though the British had the attitude first, the music started in America. And it's because of the Ramones that members of the Sex Pistols and The Clash wanted to start a band.

If Americans can never understand punk, why hasn't a decent punk band come from the UK in 15 years?

so what if their songs are a little similar...
That's what makes them so good...
The simple upbeat rhytm...
Today bands are so complicated...
With all their beats and chords and evrything...
All you need for good old punk rock is three chords and a back beat...
And yes they did a little more than three chords...
But whatever...
The Ramones are punk...
Pioneer fathers of punk...

if a person cant stand the ramones, they don't like punk...punk is dead...it died a long time ago...bands like the clash, ramones and sex pistols were real punk bands...and so it is said...avril lavigne, busted or linkin park is NOT punk

I like The Ramones, but don't you think their songs are a bit similar? And I would definitely disagree about Ramones starting the punk movement. I would have to say that it was the Sex Pistols' Anarchy In The U.K. that started it. And Kurdt Kobain, I have to disagree that The Clash are not punk. I think the Clash were. Joe Strummer had political views (Rock The Casbah, for example) and the band were anti-establishment. Sso apart from them not really being a three-chord band, and they experimented a bit more than most punk bands, I think they are considered as punk.

To answer punkrawkrebel, this song is about not wanting to be crazy and non-conformist because everyone gives you stick for it. Man, I relate.
And, whofreak777, The Ramones were virtually unknown in America and Americans DON'T get punk -- while Britain was sticking its collective jacket with safety pins, Americans were listening to Bruce Springsteen.
I agree with punkrawkrebel, you have to be British to understand punk.

Americans don't get punk? The Ramones were American! The Ramones played their first British show with future members of bands like The Sex Pistols, the Clash, The Damned, and others watching. It's The Ramones that pretty much started all mainstream punk.

ramones started punk, but they lost their way in trying to make money. i think the real problem is the american dream, and that they focused too hard on north america, where punk can't really take off - there is too much hope. they stayed around way past their welcome, trying to succeed. that's why the brits succeeded so much (and why they are so popular in south america) - because if you were born in the slums, odds-on are that you were going to die there. whereas american you always hear stories of the poor bloke getting the football scholarship etc. people in american can't truly understand punk - you have to be british. and who cares what they music is like? punk isn't about that.

and what the hell is the song about?

In terms of music, I think the Ramones are slightly overrated. In terms of influence they definately are not. They didn't start punk, but they made it big. Although their music was great, there were better punk bands.

ramones are god. I can see where youre comming from saying they arent that good but thats the whole glory to it. theyre so "not good" that it made them so good and revolutionary. i mean they were like amongst the best punk bands and yet their songs were so simple.

am i making any sense at all??
