Morning has broken like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing,
Praise for the morning,
Praise for them springing fresh from the world.

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven,
Like the first dewfall on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass.

Mine is the sunlight,
Mine is the morning,
Born of the one light Eden saw play.
Praise with elation, praise ev'ry morning,
God's recreation of the new day.

Morning has broken...

Song Meaning:The song may have been intended as a prayer, but to me it celebrates new life in it's first morning and the joy that he or she brings to all of us who share in the wonder of that birth.

General Comment:My wife of 22 plus years picked this as one of the songs at our wedding. I was one of those who basically said, "honey, plan the wedding the way you want it, I promise I will be there..." It was not until TODAY (12-8-2011) that, upon hearing this song, I finally listened to the words, then looked them up and...thank you sweetheart, you picked a perfect song, even if I just figured it out. You made me cry today. I Love you....

Memory:Find this a really beautiful song, it was played as one of the hymns at my mum's funeral and every time I hear this it kinda reminds me of that day. It's one of those songs that makes me feel sad but joyful at the same time

Memory:I was at a funeral a year ago for my cousin and his family had set up a picture video on a TV and it had been playing an incredibly sad instrumental song and it wasn't until several months later, I heard "Morning Has Broken" on the radio and realized that had been the song in the video, so every time I hear this song, I think of my cousin, especially because his death hit so close to home to me.

General Comment:Actually, it's a slightly modified version of a hymn, when words writted by Eleanor Farjeon in 1931 and the tune based on a Gaelic melody known as Bunessan.
