Lyrics for 53rd & 3rd as interpreted by rainbow_radness

53rd & 3rd Lyrics
If you think you can, well come on man
I was a Green Beret in Viet Nam
No more of your fairy stories
'Cause I got my other worries.
53rd and 3rd
Standing on the street
53rd and 3rd
I'm tryin' to turn a trick
53rd and 3rd
You're the one they never pick
53rd and 3rd
Don't make you feel sick ?
Then I took out my razor blade
Then I did what God forbade
Now the cops are after me
But I proved that I'm no sissy.

I love the Ramones too, and more young people who like today's "punk" should listen to the Ramones and hear how it all started! by the way, this song is about Dee Dee's time spent as a young male hooker on the corner of 53rd & 3rd in Manhatten

there is a cover on this Ramones TRibute cd. it is awsome it is covered by kiss i think and it is so cool because you get in to dee dee's mind. kinda a see what he sees .. and feel what he feels i think it is just deeper that the words it is the emotions that he feels

i also think it is about proving to people that he isn't a wuss and just fucks someone wwho tried to fuck him over it you catch my drift

> it really doesn't have a meaning no ramones songs ever did

That's a bit of a generalisation. Even "I wanna Be Your Boyfriend" had a very clear meaning.

i like how this is based on a true story. dee dee used to hang around on street corners but i don't think he ever got too violent about it. read about in his is bio...

yo dudes check it
53rd and 3rd was at the time known as THE hotspot in NYC to find yourself a nice gay hooker
so thatsa what it means
deedee mighta been a gay hooker, but i bet he wasnt a green beret, nor did he ever do to one what god forbade with a razor blade

Most of you are stupid
53rd and 3rd is an interesection in NYC where lots of male prostitutes hung around trying to "turn a trick" (catch the eye of a john)

In this case, the whore was a green beret In vietnam. He stands on the corner, but never gets picked. When he finally does, he took out his razor blade and did what God forbade (he killed the john) to prove that he isn't a sissy, and now the cops are after him

This songs kicks ass as does Metallica's version of it.

In "End of the Century", the Ramones documentary, it said that is was about when Dee Dee Ramone was a man hooker on the corner of 53rd and 3rd, he almost never got picked and when he did he pulled a knife to proove that he wasn't gay and only wanted money.

RIP: Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee

whether or not it involves dee dee, it seems to be a song written in despair about not being able to succeed in the lowest of lows: prostitution. when the person finally does, the dude kills the client to prove his worth.

why do people think that sum 41 and good charlotte and all those sort of bands are punk? please, someone give them a bit of ramones, bit of sex pistols, the clash....and then they'll know what punk is. when did punk die? why are there no good old school punk bands around today?
