O my sweet nurse
Pull the curtain aside for a while
So that I can for once have
The sun in my eye
You smile and say
It's a fine day

O my sweet nurse
Pull the curtain aside for a while

Then like a ghost at night
You come around all dressed in white
Talking to me
And so I have to drink
The water with your poison spilled
For no more will

O my sweet nurse
Seems you have so little time
That you rather put
Me to sleep than sit by my side

General Comment:For some reason this song kinda reminds me of the book "Misery" by Stephen King.

General Comment:I don't think this song is meant to be taken quite so literally. In fact, most of Katatonia's lyrics seem to involve a lot of metaphors and imagery. They often have a sort of impressionistic feel to them.

Anyway, I think the song is about someone important in the narrator's life, who seems to be much more interested in "Fixing" him, rather than "Helping" him. The nurse obviously a metaphor for some sort of caretaker or confidant. She (or he) brushes off his request to open the curtains with a comment on what a fine day it is, and then later on, she (or he) seems much more interested in 'putting him to sleep' than listening to what's really bothering him. He's forced to drink their "poisoned water" so on and so forth.

So yeah, someone who thinks they know what's best for you, but end up keeping you sick. That's what I believe the song is in reference to.

General Comment:sorry, I don't think this song is about sleeping pills or anti-depressants.
It's about euthanasia. My father told me about a nurse who killed about 50 patients and I though "yes, thats it!" It's quite obvious..the poison he drank for "no more will" and

"seems you have so little time
    that you rather put
me to sleep than sit by my side "
    putting to sleep(like animals)->killing

General Comment:I don't believe in "chemical imbalance". It's bullshit designed to be dismissive of the individuals problems vs society in order to make a profit pandering drugs to them while society goes on being the disgraceful and shameful clusterfuck that is is.

    Mind the language.

General Comment:^the term chemical imbalance is used generally in manic-depression, not regular depression.

General Comment:Actually it may also be about the battle between someone trying to "cure" someone who is depressed by filling them full of drugs (because depression is ALWAYS "chemical inballance" in todays world-sarcasm) when all they need is someone to understand/care about them.

General Comment:Nah, no "accident". It's a depression/drug song. Possibly prescription anti-depressants or sleeping pills. Something along those lines.
