He don't remember, how it got there
It had a number, written on his forearm
It spelled disaster

All hoping, all hoping for dancing
He was looking, and looking stunning
His clothes reflected light, all right
She sat, she sat in the backseat
The car was plush but had no heat
And no not no one was blushing
Their technique was so damn right

All right, and!
He read the note in the black light
He thought he read minds and was not right
That line still made him seem charming
His clothes were shining, shining

My Interpretation:In Talking Shit about a Pretty Sunset, Issac makes a this simile:

"Like a bad tempered prom queen at a homecoming dance"

Not really sure what this song means just yet, but imagine this song taking place after the prom. The two kids are having sex afterwards. "Their technique was so damn right."

General Comment:Well, Lounge (Closing Time) has clear references to heroin use:

"And everybody she knew was going to get the twist
And they all went down and did the porcupine
    And everybody was feeling high"
(A twist is a term for a bag of heroin and the porcupine refers to the needle)

"We should pull each other's triggers
    And I'm off"
(Shooting each other up, and feeling the effects of the drug hit)

It also includes dialogue, presumably between a man and woman courting one another. I always thought this song was about them, hooking up in a car after they get high.

The music is very similar too. So beautiful, like a lullaby.

    General Comment:Just a theory -

LSD produces a shimmering, brightening of colors, sparkling
LSD is a stimulant and often makes one want to dance.
LSD fucks with thermoregulation making it difficult to interpret temperature. "The car was plush but had no heat" might be Isaac's way of saying that it didn't matter anyway.
LSD is often used in a 'rave' atmosphere.
LSD can produce experience of 'shared thoughts', group dynamics are more prominent.
In The Good Times Are Killing Me - "Fed up with all that LSD"
In Closing Time (Lounge) - "And everyone was feeling high", also further dancing.

General Comment:The ending instrumental part is amazing. It has that potential of creating such images in people's head. I can easily imagine an empty socialy drowned guy dressed with a tie and some clean clothes trying to climb up some endless dusty stairs, hopelessly. I love MM's instrumentals songs.
