Where are you going?
With the long face pullin' down
Don't hide away
Like an ocean
Which you can't see but you can
Smell and the sound of waves crash down

I am no Superman
I have no reasons for you
I am no hero, oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
It's where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going?
Where do you go?
Are you lookin' for answers
To questions under the stars
And if along the way
You are growing weary
You can rest with me until a brighter day, you're okay

I am no Superman
I have no answers for you
I am no hero, oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
Where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going?
Where do you go?

Where do you go?
Where are you going?
Where do you go?

I am no Superman
I have no answers for you
I am no hero, oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
Is where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going?
Where do you go?
Tell me where are you going?
Where...
Let's go

General Comment:I agree with Haydeni, if you follow Connie's character in Oates story, it is very easy to see the similarities. I would love to ask DMB if they have read that story or were inspired by it.

General Comment:I believe this song is based off of a short story titled "Where are you going, Where have you been." I just was assigned this story in class. The story was dedicated to Bob Dylan which makes me believe even stronger that Dave used it as his inspiration. The story is about a girl who is very much obsessed with herself. She ends up meeting a boy one night who then continues to stalk her without her knowing. Then one day while her parents are away, the boy shows up and tries to get her to get in his car and come with him. She asks many times "where are you going" to the boy who never answers. This conversation evetually turns into a short struggle and the girl is left with no choice but to leave with the boy. I would highly recommend it to anyone out there looking to better understand where this song most likely originated from.

General Comment:i think that this is for someone who has a lot of questions about life, someone searching for answers, unsure of who she is, and uncontent with where where she currently is. so she wanders, not knowing how to start or where to go. Now, there's someone although confused as to why she's still feeling that way, promises to stay with her, or go wherever she wants to. and even if she makes him feel that he fell short on what she is looking for, he'd stay with her because that's where he belong.

oh well, it's just me. :)

General Comment:The way I see it, this song takes a different perspective on the boy/girl relationship. Too quickly artists will jump on the bandwagon and make a really mushy love song that involves a lot of kissing, and sex, and other misc. romance exclusively. This song however is about a guy who is willing to let the girl do what she needs to before she can settle down, but he's letting her know that whatever the case may be, I'll always be here for you. Romance is a big part of love, but there are other aspects of it that are involved and I think this song touches on those very well.

General Comment:I think there are many interpretations that could very well be correct...like poetry: what it means to the reader may not be the same to the writer. In 2004 I met a boy whom I feel in total lust for. He was about 12 years older than I. As I got to know him and as I look back now, Dave's lyrics describe him perfectly in my mind. This song makes me think of some one who is running...has thought of every option but can't settle because they don't trust. There is a bit of hesitance and apprehension behind every action. This song sounds empty (not to say I think it's fabulous) and broken. Like the person feels an inadequacy and can never be at peace with themselves. Anyways, this song reminds me of this guy--who I believe to be torn inside who has this longing and desire that can't be fulfilled.

General Comment:This is one of Dave's best simple songs...this seems to simplistic and that's probably why it did so well with the Mr. Deeds campaign. Most of his other stuff is too damn intelligent for mass consumption. I think that's why he didn't attach Dreaming Tree to Mr. Deeds.

General Comment:It's about God. He wants to be with God. The "where are you going" is a cry to nonbelievers as to where exactly they are going in life and in the afterlife.
