Where Are You Going? (Busted Stuff versi... Lyrics
Where are you going?
With the long face pullin' down
Don't hide away
Like an ocean
Which you can't see but you can
Smell and the sound of waves crash down

I am no Superman
I have no reasons for you
I am no hero, oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
It's where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going?
Where do you go?
Are you lookin' for answers
To questions under the stars
And if along the way
You are growing weary
You can rest with me until a brighter day, you're okay

I am no Superman
I have no answers for you
I am no hero, oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
Where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going?
Where do you go?

Where do you go?
Where are you going?
Where do you go?

I am no Superman
I have no answers for you
I am no hero, oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
Is where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going?
Where do you go?
Tell me where are you going?
Where...
Let's go

The way I see it, this song takes a different perspective on the boy/girl relationship. Too quickly artists will jump on the bandwagon and make a really mushy love song that involves a lot of kissing, and sex, and other misc. romance exclusively. This song however is about a guy who is willing to let the girl do what she needs to before she can settle down, but he's letting her know that whatever the case may be, I'll always be here for you. Romance is a big part of love, but there are other aspects of it that are involved and I think this song touches on those very well.

I think there are many interpretations that could very well be correct...like poetry: what it means to the reader may not be the same to the writer. In 2004 I met a boy whom I feel in total lust for. He was about 12 years older than I. As I got to know him and as I look back now, Dave's lyrics describe him perfectly in my mind. This song makes me think of some one who is running...has thought of every option but can't settle because they don't trust. There is a bit of hesitance and apprehension behind every action. This song sounds empty (not to say I think it's fabulous) and broken. Like the person feels an inadequacy and can never be at peace with themselves. Anyways, this song reminds me of this guy--who I believe to be torn inside who has this longing and desire that can't be fulfilled.

This is one of Dave's best simple songs...this seems to simplistic and that's probably why it did so well with the Mr. Deeds campaign. Most of his other stuff is too damn intelligent for mass consumption. I think that's why he didn't attach Dreaming Tree to Mr. Deeds.

It's about God. He wants to be with God. The "where are you going" is a cry to nonbelievers as to where exactly they are going in life and in the afterlife.

I just mentioned band names because alotta people are under the suspicion that most dave fans listen only listen to Dave and nothing else. They also think that we think Dave Matthews and dmb is the greatest thing on God's green earth. When we do, however, actually have other interests besides dave. That's why I mentioned some of the bands that I listen to.

Frankly, I'm going to be a loyal fan to dmb. I could give a flying fuck on who thinks they sold out or whatever. Bitch all you want at me, my idea's aren't gonna change. When Dave starts trying to be a gangsta rapper or dmb ditches their instruments to be a boy band, then I'll be worried about them "selling out." But to be frank, I could give a shit who thinks what. I like other bands besides dmb too, like thursday, Led Zeppelin, Joe Satriani (solo artist), The Allman Brothers, Staind, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Hendrix, Deftones, Glassjaw, Reveille, Pearl Jam, Blues Traveler, Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, and The Clarks to name a few. If you wanna mention any band that really sucks and possibly "sold out" look no further than Limp Bizkit.

this a tremendous song that is really close to my life. the most beautiful girl i will ever know moved away, and i think about her and smile everytime i hear this song. it makes so happy. and to Bort The Great, why trash Dave like that, this is a site for opinions, you don't need to say these things, just not necessary.

Dave has said that the song is ambiguous, and to try to prove that to himself, he has dedicated it to farmers at Farm Aid (2002), for "peaceful solutions" (10.24.02) and for soldiers (D&T tour 2003).

But I think the song was written with a woman in mind (his wife most likely). He is saying "no matter where you go or where life takes us, I'll be there by your side." As Dave has said in interviews, home is wherever his family is. So I'm not sure why Dave wants it to be "ambiguous" when it has a universal message in the context of "I'll always be with you." It's actually one of Dave's most universal songs.

I know this was NOT the original intention of Dave, but as i graduate from high school, i kinda see this as a song about friends splitting apart as they go to college:
"Where are you going?"
-I've heard this countless times in the final weeks of school
"Are you lookin' for answers"
-This is kinda what we're all looking for in regards to ourselves and our future
"You can rest with me"
-To me, means that whatever the world throws you, I'll be here for you.

I dunno, those are just my two cents

Yep, of course another classic DMB love song, I think it relates to the common man, people like you and me, "I am no superman, I have no answers for you....Where you are is where I belong, I do know where you go thats where wanna be." - Another song that should be on this list of song meanings by DMB is "Me and Her" if you like the others, you'll love "Me and Her" too

Uh i dont know what to say about this "selling out" thing. Everyone has their own opinion but i mean if DMB did sell out....whats so wrong with it? And about the live album comments made a while ago. I'd rather listen to a live album than a studio album because there is just soooo much more energy for example in Listener Supported "Rapunzel" when he just screams in teh middle of one of the versus i get such a rush and same thing with the version of "All along the watchtower" on this album when he says the lyric...'the wind began to howl', amazing!!! Basic point everyone wants to sell out and its cool if they do, whatever as long as i like their music i'll listen to them

oh cry me a river about DMB being sell outs...you guys are pathetic...enjoy the damn music..you all are just jealous that your not the only ones who know about them and are trying to be these i-dont-like-mainstream music idiots......and dont come back here and say i love dmb ive loved em for years..cos your lying if you dont like them anymore becuase they are "sellouts". Quit your crying and listen to the music.
