Where Are You Going? (Busted Stuff versi... Lyrics
Where are you going?
With the long face pullin' down
Don't hide away
Like an ocean
Which you can't see but you can
Smell and the sound of waves crash down

I am no Superman
I have no reasons for you
I am no hero, oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
It's where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going?
Where do you go?
Are you lookin' for answers
To questions under the stars
And if along the way
You are growing weary
You can rest with me until a brighter day, you're okay

I am no Superman
I have no answers for you
I am no hero, oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
Where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going?
Where do you go?

Where do you go?
Where are you going?
Where do you go?

I am no Superman
I have no answers for you
I am no hero, oh, that's for sure
But I do know one thing
Is where you are is where I belong
I do know where you go is where I wanna be

Where are you going?
Where do you go?
Tell me where are you going?
Where...
Let's go

i suppose that the lyrics to this song could have possibly come from the same inspiration that caused Dave to write "Busted Stuff"... its a more introspective version of the same song... not as cute, and not nearly as creative, but definitely an important part of the whole feeling you get from being Busted Up...

My impression is that its about a girl that doesnt want to date anyone... she just has friends, and she might like Dave, but Dave is trying to see if she is interested by dropping this hint... in the form of a song...

Call me crazy (or wishful thinking) but I believe this song is to his fans. Why I say this is because of these lines:
Are you lookin' for answers
To questions under the stars
And if along the way
You are growing weary
You can rest with me until a brighter day, you're okay

I think this is him telling us that his songs he writes because that's what he does. He's not trying to solve everyones' problems or give everyone answers because he doesn't have any answers, but if we want to relax and listen to his music and enjoy life for a moment, then he is more than happy to do that for us.
Where WE are is where HE belongs. (and I certainly agree with that)
Just my opinion.

i dunno but if you listen to the instruments and to the melody, it is very Crash into Me. i like how the lyrics portrays honesty in a sense that a man tells what he can not give to someone, but despite his inadequacy, he assures that he will always be with her.

ps
its kinda romantic yet impractical (imagine, having someone who only promises to be with you).

pps
i like AmyKate's opinion, one of those read-between-the- lines thing :)

The perfect song to complete The Lillywhite Sessions and make them "Busted Stuff"... I loved the Lillywhite Sessions when I heard them last year and this song just adds so much to them and completes the CD... It's a great follow-up to the mellow-ness of Grace is Gone and Bartender...

Plus, I like what gabe_ph is saying... It's just a guy telling a girl that he can't promise her everything, but he will still always be with her...

I totally agree with gabe_ph. This song sounds alot like Crash Into Me. And the lyrics are so straight forward.... about a man not being able to give a girl the world but no matter what, he will always be by her side. Why can't all men be like that?!?!?

Dave himself said that he felt the song was a cross between "Crush" and "Crash Into Me", and I think that nails its feel perfectly. This one belongs right up there with "I'll Back You Up" and "Lover Lay Down" for me.

i agree with daveandjackrule...that alot of people only know dave because of the mainstream songs played on mtv and radio(its like that for alot of the artists on this site)...these are the same people that ruin dave songs in concert...i mean here i am trying to have a loving moment with my girlfriend during an amazing love song (take your pick) and all the sudden the moment is shattered with "I LOOOOOOOVE YOU DAVE!!!" i mean maybe its true, but really...what is shouting it during a quiet love song gonna do?? ASSES!

anyways...having vented for a minute or two...the best version of this song is the live version....i heard this song so long ago live...and then when i heard the video version and the version that will be on "busted stuff" i was disappointed. Did dave go back to ballard ("everyday" producer) to make this cd? i mean i know dave wrote most of the songs with steve lillywhite for the album that was dropped to make "everyday" and is now "busted stuff" but after hearing the version thats gonna be on the cd...it sounds like dave did go back to ballard. dave is being ruined by ballard...he's redefining dave, and this is not a good thing at all...i'm a die hard dave fan...been that way for years now...since "remember 2 things" (which most of the dumbass "i love you dave" fans have probably never heard of) but i was disappointed with "everyday" except for 2 or 3 songs.
Dave has and always will be a better live band than a CD band....just get the live version of this song from kazaa or something and then listen to the video and "busted stuff" version....you'll see what i mean

Why pull away, and miss the possible joy you can get? ''i am no hero' , but take some time. Be with me; for with you, 'is where i belong'

'where are you going?'.....go with me....'let's go'

Mozkill...I love that description because that's the interrpretation that most applies to me. I went to see Mr. Deeds last night. I love how the preview makes Dave look like a main character in the movie. The song fits the movie perfectly and comes at just the right time in it. I got teary when it started playing. I love the movie too.

"Don't hide away
Like an ocean
Which you can't see but you can
Smell and the sound of waves crash down"

I love that.....such a sentual lyric.

my boyfriend came over to my house, and as i was picking him up, this song came over the radio. i looked at him and just started bawling because this is exactly how i feel about him. i can't give him anything at all except for my undying love and support. we had been fighting the night before and this song came on right after we made up. :-) i love you, kevin.

Now i must say dave matthews is amazing but quit ragging on ballard. sure it isn't all matthews amazing songcraftsmanship buyt him and ballard do write some really good stuff. Now everyday was a little hard to get into but once you get into that album you realize it is some of dave matthews best work. And I'm expecting more of the same from busted stuff.

Dave Matthews is a sell out...this whole album is poopy. Ever since Everyday he hasn't written a good song. It's all pop now. Everything is about money... I heard him singing a Miller Light commercial. He's like, "These are the time we talk about the old days and drink Miller Light." Come on Dave. I'm surprised he isn't hanging out with N Sync by now. Go back to your roots or just go straight to letting someone else write your music. You will get more money that way, plus you won't have to try to sound introspective by throwing words down trying to sound complicated.

Tell me how Dave did not sell out writing garbage like Everyday and singing Miller Light commercials and appearing in teen magazines? Incubus might have sold their appearance out but they did not sell their music out. The only difference between a good hardcore song and a good dave song is the music and voice. Read some Thursday lyrics and then read some Dave lyrics.
