Lyrics for Somewhere Over The Rainbow as interpreted by Cait

Somewhere Over The Rainbow Lyrics
Oooo, oooooo,ooooo,ooooooo
oooo,oooo
Ooooo,oooo,oooo
Oooooo,ooooo,ooooo,ooo,
oooo,oooo,ooo

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dream of
Once in a lullaby

Oh, somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dream of
Dreams really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind....me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Oh, Somwhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dream that you dare to
Why oh why can't I

Well I see trees of green
And red roses too
I watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Well I see skies of blue
And I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
See friends shakin hands saying
'How do you do?'
They're really sayin,'I, I love you."

I hear babies cryin
And are lost in hope
They'll know much more than we'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Oh, someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Oh, somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dare to
Why oh why can't I...I

Ooooo,oooo,ooooo,ooooo,oooo,oooo......

Israel's most famous song, really awesome for dreaming to. It sounds like hes talking about where he dreams of living, its a good remix.

Will someone please tell me what was the two songs that are covered in this song? The songs are familiar, but I don't know the title. Wow, I feel like a fool. I know I'm supposed to know those songs, but I really don't. Please tell me. :)

This song was played at my grandmother's funeral while they did a slide-show of my grandmother while she was alive. This is a very beautiful song.

Love this song, so serene. I first heard it in "Finding Forrester" and then in E.R. when Dr. Greene passed away. I then heard it when I finally had the chance to watch "Meet Joe Black". This song can be morphed into so many meanings that it is a true piece of art. So well sung, so well composed, so well combined.

I do believe this song is about death & loss. Look at the placement of the two covers within the arrangement. The song begins with looking over the rainbow to Oz, or heaven. It is an expression of lamentation that someone close to the singer has died, but he believes that they are now somewhere far away, somewhere he will go one day.
Then he transitions into "What a wonderful World" which is rife with hope for the manifold possibilities for the future. He sees beauty everywhere and infinite potential in babies passing by. But at the same time he wishes that his friend could be there to see it too. It's a song about missing someone who is gone while taking in the beauty of the world. Israel reportedly wrote this for a friend (gabby pahinui). It was released five years before his own death.

Just my own little take on this, might be a bit off, but whatever. I kinda see it as the grass is greener kind of a thing. Wanting what you can't have. In the beginning the singer is on Earth and they dream of Heaven and how great it will be. He dreamed of leaving Earth for a better place. Once they get to Heaven the singer realizes that Earth was also a great place. He looks down from Heaven and sees the beauty of the World and wonders why he wanted to leave so badly.

I'm not trying to say that the singer sees Earth as the greener side when he is in Heaven. I am just saying that when he gets to Heaven he forgets all those troubles he had and that makes Earth that much more beautiful.

HAHAHA It's great how the person who submitted these lyrics actually typed the right amount of ooo's. hahaha...even if you forgot "K, this one's for Gabby"

this song is absolutely beautiful. I love the simple sound of the ukulele with IZ's voice. Good lyrics too, even though kamakawiwo'ole didnt write them. I have never met a person who does not love or at least appreciate this song...

Even though I think the lyrics may be about hope for a good afterlife or something spiritual like that, I like to think of of it like some things here on earth in this life may be tough, but when the good times do come, they will seem so much sweeter. The author is saying that this is the life we have, positive and negative, I love it for what it's worth

I wish I could've heard this song somewhere happier, but I first heard it in a video of graphic animal slaughter. It was one of those myspace chain bulletins that show cats and dogs being skinned alive for fur. The tone of the song added a certain hint of bleak sarcasm to the video. Probably one of the most disturbing images I had ever seen on the internet was of a dog completely skinless except for it's paws but still moving, and slowly dying to the final chorus of this song.

Nevertheless, this song is amazing, and in due time I'll be able to listen to it and think of things other than animal cruelty.

This version is amazing!
I first heard in 50 first dates and loved it straight away.
It's gorgeous and his voice just makes me want to listen to it 20 times every time!
It's also one of those songs that can cheer me up when i'm down. It helps me to realise that theres something good on the other side waiting for me to find and not just dark clouds following me all the time.

Why can't he actually get the original lyrics right? Everything is "and the dreams that you dare to..."

Doesn't everyone love this song. Doesn't it simply tug at your heart-strings in some very deep way that you can't quite put your finger on. A mix of feelings, like bitter-sweet, or beautiful and gut-wrenching at the same time?

Consider this:

Remember Pearl Harbor? Remember how outraged we were that the Japanese would attack our precious little Hawaii? Those wicked Japanese, trying to steal this little jewel! But forgetting who we stole it from long ago, how we slipped in ever so sweetly, and took the land away from the natives, all with our crafty underhanded legal ways. Izzy was a native Hawaiian
and well knew the history of his dear people. How American culture has captured this beautiful song, and made it their own is yet another example of our cold hearted ways. We steal everything a people have and make them servants to our great society. They were stupid anyhow, so it was their own fault, right? Then we steal the music that pours out of their broken hearts, not unlike the Nazi's might have had the Jews play music before they were gassed... beautiful music that tears your heart in half. No, we fought the Nazi's, we are not like that at all! We don't kill anybody, and if we steal, we do it legally. We will treat all our native
populations with respect as long as they know their place and stay out of our way. But we will lock them up if they steal anything back, or try to escape their woes with drugs. We only allow firewater which poisons them. Only that is allowed them. We are Christians, after all! God bless America!

We need to develop a heart for the poor of the world, but it may be too late for that.

Read a short story by Jack London if interested,
at least regarding the Hawaiian perspective.

I wouldn't say Izzy wanted to escape this world, if that is what you mean by "get out of hear", but there is a clear heartbreak tone mixed with a joy of life. The beauty of life mixed with the sadness of it. He looks like a jovial man in the pictures I have seen, not melancholy. A joy of life but with a melancholy heart, a beautiful mix that belongs to a person who has suffered, but still knows love in their heart, instead of bitterness, which suffering can produce as well.

I think it just means getting away from it all.
Whether it be dying and going to heaven or just lying in the grass one day, thinking of what great things come before you!

Simply Beautiful. ^_^

This song brings tears to my eyes thinking about what a beautiful and magical place Hawaii is... Aloha spirit.. on my second trip to Maui we felt like things weren't going our way, our car rental screwed us over, and we were so pissed about everything because we spend any money we have each year just to get there. as we were left walking along the road a random lady picked us up, and she was so friendly and asked us where we needed to go. as soon as that was established she turned up the radio which was playing this very song - which has always spoke to me about Hawaii. Just reconfirming my love for the islands, and a total representation of the aloha spirit. she wouldn't accept any money from us and said to pass it on.
2 days and i'm back in hawaii!! ALOHA

this was played at my favorite english prof's funeral last week. it will never be the same to me... Iz nailed it when he put these two together. i read once that he woke up in the middle of the night, called a few friends to help him get out of bed, get his ukelele, and go to the recording studio... the songs merged in his dreams and he just started playing and singing... one take, improvisation, a masterpiece. it doesn't get much better than that.

:/ Are these lyrics correct?
"Well I see skies of blue
And I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world"
I always thought it was "and the brightness of day highlights the dark" and
"I hear babies cryin
And are lost in hope " I thought it was "and I watch them grow"
These lyrics make the song gloomier to me. It's still beautiful, of course.
