Lyrics for Somewhere Over The Rainbow as interpreted by Cait

Somewhere Over The Rainbow Lyrics
Oooo, oooooo,ooooo,ooooooo
oooo,oooo
Ooooo,oooo,oooo
Oooooo,ooooo,ooooo,ooo,
oooo,oooo,ooo

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dream of
Once in a lullaby

Oh, somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dream of
Dreams really do come true

Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind....me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Oh, Somwhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dream that you dare to
Why oh why can't I

Well I see trees of green
And red roses too
I watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Well I see skies of blue
And I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
See friends shakin hands saying
'How do you do?'
They're really sayin,'I, I love you."

I hear babies cryin
And are lost in hope
They'll know much more than we'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Oh, someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Oh, somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dare to
Why oh why can't I...I

Ooooo,oooo,ooooo,ooooo,oooo,oooo......

don't know if anyone is gonna read this in many years to come... but i like to say that this song is good. It suits the movie and IMO a good movie. Anyway i like to add that the singer add much peacefulness and serenity to this 2 combine classic songs that it makes me like this song much more than the orignal. thats all i would to say.

I'm also surprised more people haven't commented on this awesome cover of two songs.
Probably because his name is so weird, and no one knows who the song is sung by.

This song is on a new Lynx deodorant advert thats screening in the uk. So i think it might become more popular in the next few weeks. I had never heard of "IZ" before, but i tihnk this is one of the most beautiful things ive ever heard. he voice is just pure silk. it reminds me of my holiday romance earlier this year, and spending late nights on the beach chatting and kissing.

i find this song horribly depressing. when i listen to it, i feel like he's sayin, "i wanna get outta here and go to this 'wonderful world'...coz this one isn't so wonderful..."

This is a beautiful song. I heard it from a show called Cold Case which is a good show. In my opinion In my opinion this song is about dieing. Dying isn’t a bad thing at all… after all it’s simply a part of life. Moving onto heaven. This song is about someone who died and is in heaven. “Wake up where the clouds are far behind me” to me just means in heaven, Where all the troubles of life are over and where nothing but blue skies lay. Good old heaven. I know if I die and don’t go to heaven, I’m going to be pissed. Especially after this beautiful song about that. Peace, Harmony… I’m not going to go quote by quote and destroy any of your imagination with what I think it means. But I’m leaving you ladies and gentlemen with my opinion that this song is about death and moving onto heaven.

This version of this song was played at my Uncle's funeral, and I just can't listen to it without crying. It never fails to do so. It really is a beautiful song, but the meaning of it is just too bittersweet for me.

This is the music that was played in the background in the ER episode where Dr Greene died, although i havn't had this song in relation to any personal tragedy, it is still deeply upsetting.

As soon as I here this song. I look up and start to tearing. To me this song is about strugle. Israel Kamakawiwo wanted to free Hawaii from the US. And me being Pacific Islander. I think it hurt him to see his homeland(my paradise) destroyed. But Israel was acually a very gental person for his size. When you listen to this song its hard to imagine this guy sing such a gental song. And thats what makes me cry. Aloha everyone.

I thought it was a girl singing at first.

That said, beautiful voice. I don't hear this as a depressing song... I hear it as hope for a better future. The past kicks us down but we'll all get back up. It's never over until your in the ground.

RIP: BRUDDAH IZ!

I absolutely love Kamakawiwo'ole's interpretation of these two songs. His voice was simply amazing. I think that putting these two songs together makes this song a little contrdictory. "Somewhere over the rainbow" is saying that there has to be something better than this life. Whereas "what a wonderful world" is saying that life is good and the person is content with life. But maybe the "wonderful world" bit is like looking into the place that "somewhere over the rainbow" is hoping for. Im not sure. I hope that made sense lol.

Theres nothing about death in either original, so unless its more than the sum of its parts, it seems to me more realisitic version of both - it does sound kind of sad - but remember the lyrics from both are optimistic. Like the person said - its about dreaming to be in a wonderful world, and seeing at the same time the world is wonderful.

I'm from Kansas, so there's kind of a Love-Hate relationship with that song (Try getting asked about Dorothy 1000 times!!). And I loved Armstrong's version of It's a Wonderful World in "Her Majesty"s Secret Service". But I first heard this version in the 90's on NPR. They had apparently run a segment on IZ before and got complaints from record stores because of all the requests for that "Jewish Hawaiian" guy and in the days before the Internet..... I fell in love with the sound and spirit. A year or two later I special ordered the CD. My wife fell in love with it and I played it for my Mom. She claimed she and my dad had heard in one time when they were in Hawaii and remembered the song. It was a good time in their lives when they were nearing retirement, living comfortably and before the slow decay of dementia took my Fathers mind and body and emphysema smothered my Mom. I insisted that they play this song for my mothers funeral. It's only sad if you can't remember what make life and living and love so wonderful. The tears are tears of joy watering our memories.

I heard this song a few months ago and ive been playing it non stop ever since. . . i like when he talks about shaking hands and really saying i love u. . . it makes me think of the james blunt song where he talks about looking someone in the eye, falling in love, and knowing ull never be with them. . .

anyways. i love this song. his voice is pretty much one of a kind.

i told my mom i wanted this song played at my funeral because it made my heart smile and she started freaking out. . . . but at least if i die i know that ppl will hear this song and have a happy memory . .. amazing

This song makes me want to cry as well, although I can't decide if that's because it makes me happy or sad. It's enchanting, almost haunting. I can put it on repeat and leave it there for hours.

I think this song is great. To me it is about a new beginning. We considered this for our wedding song because for us "Somewhere over the Rainbow" isn;t saying that there has to be something better than this life, but that our love for one another will take us over the rainbow. For us it takes us to a better place and reminds us that things are better since we have the two of us. I guess like most songs it can be interpretted many different ways
