Mightiest am I, but I am not alone in this cosmos of mine. For the black hills consist of black souls, souls that already died one thousand deaths. Behind the stone walls of centuries they breed their black art. Boiling their spells in cauldrons of black gold.
Far up in the mountains, where the rain fall not far, yet the sun cannot reach. The wizards, my servants, summon the souls of macrocosm.
No age will escape my wrath. I travel though time and I return to the future. I gather wisdom now lost. I visit again the eternally ancient caves, before a mighty Emperor thereupon came.
Watching the mortals "discovering" my chronicles, guarded by the old demons, even unknown to me. Once destroyed to feast upon the screaming souls that was destroyed in my future. How many wizards that serve me with evil. I know not. My empires has no limits.
From the never ending mountains black, to the bottom lakes. I am the ruler and has been for eternity's long. My wizards are many, but their essence is mine. Forever there are in the hills in their stone homes of grief. Because I am the spirit of their existence. I am them.

Song Meaning:when i mention wisdom i speak of pure knowledge and reason. considerably uncorrupted.

the song is about finding wisdom. wisdom for generations has been cast out in place of what is considered "holy" or religious truth. thus inherent wisdom is considered "evil". anything referred to as "light" is a representation of what is holy and falsehood. black is used to defy this. wisdom has no ego or point of reference. it exists purely in time and space. therefore, by gaining wisdom you lose the essence of "self" and become part of "them". they who found wisdom in the past present and future. they are the black wizards. and i am them.

cold, grim and epic. classic emperor

General Comment:Mesmerizing, simply stunning!!! If you're into occult, evil-obsessed black metal that leans heavily on darkly poetic lyrics, then I strongly recommend Emperor.

I just love the way the song starts off so rapidly, and gets slower as it progresses. My favorite part is the middle, where the keyboards and the choir kick in. It's just makes for such an eerie, spectral effect on the song!

The lyrics are simply about black wizards who live in Satan's image, preach his word, and summon his dark magic to wreak havoc upon mankind. Then at the end, The Emperor (Satan), makes his claim that these practioners of black magic are simply human puppets, and that he channels his essence through them at his will and command.

Altogether, this is just a great song overall, and a must have for anyone wishing to explore the darkest realms of true extreme metal (as opposed to the nu-metal/metalcore crap [this is a general statement as not all of the songs in the previously mentioned genres suck] that is popular with today's "metal" crowd) should consider looking into.

General Comment:DreamingInTheÆther: He isn't a teacher in school, but he gives guitar lessons to many youths, many of my friends have or have had him as a teacher =) And he seems like a skilled guitar teacher as well.

General Comment:This song, to me, is sung from the point of view of Satan, who is stating that every evil person in the world is a part of him. Plain and simple.

General Comment:In addition to what Count Grim said: Faust also wrote lyrics for Zyklon, but couldn't play in the band because he was in prison at the time.

General Comment:The reason why the churches were burned was, in my opinion any rate, retribution against Christianity. If you look at how Christendom finally enternched itself in Scandinavian culture it wasn't pretty. They did everything they could to avert a beautiful culture from it's roots. In the end they could never fully succeed so they adopted some of the pagan customs. They built churches over Nordic holy sites. In fact Fantoft church, one of the churches that was burned is over ancient holy ground. Also if you look at how the Catholics "cross" themselves that's actually a variation of an old Norse prayer.

General Comment:I believe this song to be a tale about a man who has lived throughout the ages, being incarnated as different forces of evil through history. It reminds me of a dark version of Patton's speech in the movie of the same name wherein he claims to be the reincarnation of past generals. This song also has a Lovecraft-ian feel to it. Maybe the force in question is Nyarlathotep?
