It's all the same thing
Now that it ever was
Except now you've strayed too far
Need you to stop digging your hole
And follow the path we light
Don't need an invitation to be reconciled
'Cause these home fires are burning
Stare into your empty eyes and wonder...

How could something so right turn out so wrong?
You spent your time making excuse
For the ways of life that you are choosing
How could something so right turn out so wrong?
Not sure exactly where I am
The more we organize
We suck out this life that serves as the fuel behind

You want to take the passion in my veins
And put it down in black and white
You've got your foot directly on the gas
I watch you burn out so fast
Now I can see just what you've become

And how could something so right turn out so wrong?
I don't have a backup plan
This is all that I am
And how could something so right turn out so wrong?
Not sure exactly where I am

(One) one thousand (good) intentions
(Lost) translation (lost) forever
(One) one thousand (good) intentions
(Lost) translation (lost) forever
Lost

How could something so right turn out so wrong?
I don't have a backup plan
This is all that I am
And how could something so right turn out so wrong?
Not sure exactly
Where I am
Where I am

General Comment:"you spent your time making excuses
for the ways of life that you are choosing"

To me, it seems like a reference to vegetarianism, the steps towards it; a criticism of consuming meat

    "the more we organize
we suck out this life that serves as the fuel behind"

The second line especially seems referencing directly to our use of animals as food

"you've got your foot directly on the gas
I watch you burn out so fast"

This could be referencing to the unsustainable nature of the meat industry

Overall, perhaps its the analysis of the meat industry on the whole, the intention was good; to support the economy and the people with a source of food..

    "it's all the same thing
    now that it ever was
except now you've strayed too far
need you to stop digging your hole
and follow the path we light"

The meat industry has gone to far, because it is such a large and competitive industry, farmers resort to cruelty and chemicals to speed up efficiency of their production of meat

"you wanna take the passion in my veins
and put it down in black & white"

Meat farmers try and justify the cruelty by pointing to the fact that its a major support to the economy and its a huge food resource, straying away from the central criticism: the animal cruelty

General Comment:This, to me, sounds like losing yourself, losing someone you love to the norm. To the masses. It sounds lost.

Like...When he says: You wanna take the passion in my veins and put it down in black and white.

They want to take our color, our voices and smother them. Silence them.

How could something so right turn out so wrong? We don't have any way to change who we are. This is who we are and we're putting it out there and you're either gonna take us as we are, or try to change us. And you may have the best of intentions, but so did a lot of people who committed crimes.

General Comment:I really don't think this is about gf & bf.
Their lyrics usually have deeper meanings than that.

    My opinin is like Rave's:

Their intentons are good, but in all they just do not get it.

General Comment:the lyrics sound like they are describing someone who just doesnt get it. their intentions are good, but they are just bad alltogether.

'need you to stop digging your hole
and follow the path we light '

    feel me?

General Comment:When I saw them live a few months ago Tim turned the last part into a sing-a-long and it was great. The whole crowd yelled during the backup vocals....the "ONE!" "GOOD!" parts. You know what I'm talking about.
