I'm older than I wish to be
This town holds no more for me
All my life I've tried to find another way
I don't care for your attitude
You bring me down, I think you're rude
All my life I've tried to make a better day

It's hard enough being alone
Sitting here by the phone
Waiting for my memories
To come and play
It's hard enough sitting there
Rockin' in your rockin' chair
It's all too much to take
When you're not there

Song Meaning:I think this song is obviusly talking about growing up in a place where you feel there's nothing else to do or nowhere to move on, all alone, without someone to go along with you. And of how, in all his life, he's always been trying to improve and be better, cause there was someone who wouldn't let him just enjoy of himself.
And then of course it just keeps talking about growing old all alone, suffering with the old memories of the worse times, and how he just can't keep going without that person he misses. Might be his mother or girlfriend, dunno. Such a beatiful song, liam's voice is great.
With or without especific meanings, Noel's songs are always just so fucking great.

General Comment:This song is about growing up in a city where you have no future. No job, no relationship, the same crap every day. I went through the same feelings years ago, and can relate to it perfectly.

General Comment:for me, its sorta about wanting to get something out of life and a horrible fear of growing old all alone, having nobody there for you and never leaving the town you live and loathe. a brilliant song, lyrically one of noels best. similar sentiment to a lot of the b-sides and raraties, e.g. talk tonight and notably sad song

General Comment:How can the cage call this a crappy tune. Its a great song. Its amazes me that when this song came out Noel was writing that many great songs that this was only a b-side.I can't think of many, if any, bands that have done so many great b-sides, especially in the early Oasis years

General Comment:This is so great and full of meaning...the music, Liam's voice reflect a feeling of pain and solace that struck me, even today...I can even picture the image of being in my rockin' chair, by the telephone, watching the years go by. Heavy, isn't it?
To me is about being mistreated by someone you care too much for, and being brought down by them. You always try to be happy but they won't let you, and you just want to move on but you can't, you're always waiting and reliving your memories...

Such a painfully (to me) nice song.

General Comment:Supposedly this song was going to be on What's The Story. It was only cut because of a technical issue, one of the guitarists couldn't learn their part.

IMO it would have ranked up there with the trio of Wonderwall/Champagne Supernova/Don't Look Back In Anger.
