She scratches a letter
Into a wall made of stone
Maybe someday
Another child
Won't feel as alone as she does
It's been two years
And counting
Since they put her in this place
She's been diagnosed
By some stupid fuck
And mommy agrees
Why go home?
Why go home?
Why go home

She seems to be stronger
But what they want her to be is weak
She could play pretend
She could join the game
She could be another clone
Why go home?

What you taught me
Don't come visit
Put me here
Mommy dear

General Comment:What's the deal with adding all the oh, ahs and yeahs into the lyrics? It's too silly.

General Comment:there is nothing wrong with me. i have been tested for countless mental diseases and the like. the school send me to therapy i dont need, and the people at school act like im a freak because im not like them. i have no problem with any of this because its only school and it doesnt really matter. when i said that my social life in school doesnt define me i had to go to therapy. i can really relate to this song

General Comment:I'm not trying to turn this forum into a therapy session or anything haha, but hearing what all of you had to say inspired me to share too. I'm a recovering drug addict and have about eight months of sobriety, and I can remember feeling just how this song describes when I was at the lowest point of my addiction. I was placed in a behavioral hospital after I tried to overdose, and I just felt really empty inside. They didn't really try to change me that much, I was just there until they could find a rehab to put me in, but i remember thinking how can these people know what's best for me? I guess i want to thank everyone who shared their stories before me, for giving me the courage to share too. This has actually meant a lot to me.

General Comment:When I first heard the song, I thought it might have been about Frances Farmer being institutionalized. Then I did some research and found out that's not what the song is about.

General Comment:Fuck man awesome song.I had an exam today and had this song in my head the whole time. Hearing others stories relating to this song and other pj song just amazes me how much affect these songs can have on people just blows my mind. Pearl jam fucking rule my world!!

General Comment:This is possibly one of the best albums on Ten, The Lyrics may sometimes might throw you in a loop (Like with EVERY Pearl Jam Song.) But sooner or later it becomes clear, For someone who was actually institutionalized I can relate to this song. Why do people tend to put tags on people because they are slightly different, Why do they refuse to love us as we are, Why Bother with all of that, Why Go...I think that what Eddie Vedder thought When he Wrote That Song.

General Comment:Hey TenvsVitalogy. I find it somewhat ironic that the Army commits you for expressing the very impulse they spend obscene amounts of money on to train you for. Could just be me though...

General Comment:Funny, I've been on a mental ward in the Army, about 6 months after signing up, for telling my platoon Sgt. I was thinking about killing him. When I got to the hospital the Major there said "You can't be in the Army anymore." The only words I ever heard her say. Two months later, I got discharged for "Honorable/Medical" reasons. Doesn't relate to this song, but just wanted to share another "nut house" story from different place.
