As the Darkness creeps over the Northern mountains of Norway and the silence reach the woods, I awake and rise... Into the night I wander, like many nights before, and like in my dreams but centuries ago.
Under the moon, under the trees. Into the Infinity of Darkness, beyond the light of a new day, into the frozen nature chilly, beyond the warmth of the dying sun. Hear the whispering of the wind, the Shadows calling...
I gaze into the moon which grants me visions these twelve full moon nights of the year, and for each night the light of the holy disciples fade away. Weaker and weaker, one by one.
I gaze into the moon which makes my mind pure as crystal lakes, my eyes cold as the darkest winter nights, by yet there is a flame inside. It guides me into the dark shadows beyond this world, into the infinity of thoughts... thoughts of upcoming reality.
In the name of the almighty Emperor I will ride the Lands in pride, carrying the Blacksword at hand, in warfare. I will grind my hatred upon the loved ones. Despair will be brought upon the hoping childs of happiness. Wherever there is joy the hordes of the eclipse will pollute sadness and hate under the reign of fear. The lands will grow black. There is no sunrise yet to come into the wastelands of phantoms lost.
May these moments under the moon be eternal. May the infinity haunt me... In Darkness

General Comment:In the recent interviews with Faust and Samoth, both distanced themselves from their crimes -murder (Faust) and burning down a 800 yr. old church (Samoth). I don't think they were Satanists, but terribly misguided. If you're interested in their story, consider reading "Lords of Chaos".

Oh yeah, the lyrics... though impossible to hear when sung, they are surprisingly cogent when read. Emperor was clearly the best Norwegian metal band.

General Comment:Just because someone burns a church doesn't mean they're satantic. They could be a disgruntled atheist or agnostic.

General Comment:Judging by this song alone, there is nothing Pagan or Satanic.

General Comment:Lots of people hate the shitty production in black metal...but I like it here, it suits the darkness of the song well. It sounds almost like a crack opened up in the earth and someone recorded the sounds coming out of hell. Creepy.

General Comment:Another thing: Emperor's lyrics seem, to me, just as Pagan as Satanic.

General Comment:One important thing you should consider, when talking about Black Metal and Satanism, is that Satanism does not necessarily meankilling chicken and raping virgins. Positve satanism is just a way to say that everyone should be his own master and not the follower of some self proclaimed greater authority like the church, telling the people how to live their lives. Thus satanism is a way of rejecting chsitianity which was brought upon the people (by force in many cases) 1000 years ago and reminding people of their pagan roots, as someone already pointed out.

The fact that Bard Eithun killed a homosexual might not be so much connected to his "satanistic" views but more to his national socialistic tendencies which were also introduced in the scene (much to my dismay) by stupid morons like aforementioned Count Grishnak aka Varg Vikernes. Considering that the man was not only homosexual but also an immigrant (iirc), it bevomes clear that this murder had nothing to do with Satanism.

Oh, and the song? I love it, the whole album is brilliant. The lyrics are great and Ihsahns screams are hauting. A masterpiece of Black Metal.

General Comment:bear in mind norway is a country with a strong viking heritage. in 800 AD olaf Trygvasson, introduced christianity to norway, and many people converted. samoths motive (who who was involved in the burning of skjold church in Rogaland, with count Grishnakh) was in fact to remind people of their VIKING roots. nothing satanic there.
the norweigians are a proud bunch ye know...:D

General Comment:satanism and church burning do not go hand in hand. you can burn churches just because you hate christianity and its oppression too ya know.
