Lyrics for Garden as interpreted by mike

Garden Lyrics
She don't wander in...don't wander in here, she...
She don't wander in here...don't wander in here...

The direction of the eye, so misleading
The defection of the soul, nauseously quick
I don't question, our existence
I just question, our modern needs

She don't wander in...don't wander in here, she...
She don't wander in here...

I will walk...with my hands bound
I will walk...with my face blood
I will walk...with my shadow flag
Into your garden, garden of stone...yeah...

After all is done, and we're still alone
I won't be taken, yet I'll go...with my hands bound
I will walk...with my face blood
I will walk...with my shadow flag
Into your garden, garden of stone

I don't show...I don't share...
I don't need, yeah...What you have to give...

Oooh, I will walk...with my hands bound
I will walk...with my face blood
I will walk...with my shadow flag
Into your garden, garden...oh...

I will walk with my hands bound
I will walk into your garden, garden of stone...

I don't know...I don't care
I don't need, yeah...need to live...yeah, yeah, yeah, oh...
Uh huh huh... (8x)

I believe this song is against modern day religion, and would have been very controversial if anyone knew the meaning of it. The Garden oif Stone is a Cemetary, meaning he will go to be buried when he dies but not be taken. Taken by religon, because he dont need the need to live. He accepts when he dies, he is not going anywhere.

I don't see the "garden of stone" as a cemetary. I think it means that where there should be growth and nature, there is conformity, which makes people like stone. By walking through the garden, he is making his own choice and defying the conformity.

wow, never thought of this as a song about a cemetary....brings new meaning to this so that I have know for over 12 yrs! While I do not necessarily agree with this interp, it does make some sense.....kind of like another song in the same vein as Sad and Otherside....I had always thought of this song as being about a relationship gone bad/being scorned, but this somewhat gives it new face for me

That makes perfect sense...Being scorned in a bad relationship, and I like the cemetery of stone/religion interpretation as well...I absolutely adore this song!!I set my CD player on repeat every time I play it...

It's actually "shade don't wander in here" referring to the lights of the city. It, to me, is about the ugliness of modern life. We claim to be more civilized but we just keep to ourselves more now. We don't help each other, yet Eddie says he'll raise his own flag in this garden (Eden) of stone. We have turned the garden of Eden into this bustling city. He says that in the end we'll all still be alone despite our efforts, but he won't be taken. He'll go there of his own power if he has to go. The theory is helped by the beginning of the song saying, "the defection of the soul nauseously quick," which is a common complaint about the big city ... we lose our souls.

there was a man named mel who was beaten and almost died he was horribly disfigured in his face he survived the beating but was ready to end it that was when the father stepped in and mels faith was found and a promise was made by both that mel would be restored to whole and all of his dreams would be rewarded and mel made the promise to remain faithfull to follow the lords will and to tell the truth about the one who was is and always will be eddie is a man who truly knew and maybe still does it saddens me to believe that a spirit of a chosen few such as he could fall from grace but i do not know the man i only hear his heart and if all of his purpose for his existence had been completed he would have gone from us but in the immortal words spoken through a true disciple I AM STILL ALIVE you have all seen the TRUE happenings portrayed in the gibson film (the promise mel made to god) hindsight is 20/20 for a reason if you truly want to hear the message forget what you think you know stop intellectualizing quit conforming we "dont need no thought control" do not be afraid because fear is only a tool that they who listen but do not hear use to manipulate and control open your eyes and truly see the WORLD around us the time is here right now as you sit where you are with "chills" of true understanding running up and down your back hear these words
come and See
what has been shown to ME
you feel
you have
A DESTINY
TRULY BELIEVE
have FAITH
that you
can WALK WITH ME
and fulfill your chosen
life to lead
can you SEE
THE ONE
WHO WAS
IS
AND ALWAYS
WILL BE
calls to thee
together
WE shall
complete
the PROPHESY LOVE everyone start living for life do not live to die like they have forced on you BE GOOD to each other learn th book of truth live it love it believe it TRULY and we will meet on that day
I LOVE ALL OF YOU AS MY FATHER LOVES YOU

To me this song is about a guy who is sick of modern comercialism but doesn't have the will to fight it. So "I just question, our modern needs" is him saying how he doesn't see why people have to buy all the modern fashionable contraptions we're told to and "I will walk with my hands bound...with my shadow flag into your garden, garden of stone" refers to how he doesn't have the will to fight it, having little self-control, so he will venture into this place which maskerades as beauty but is false and cold as stone. Well, at least that's how i read it.

i have absolutely no idea what this song is about, but it's so... mysterious, and kinda... has a certain dose of mobidity in it... dunno why... it just makes you wander off and get lost in a corner of your mind... but there are only a few songs that trigger that 'special feeling' (like tremor christ and education, but not really the same...?!) while listening to them... i don't know what it is, but i don't care, cause the song is just... great.

Cam-win,

The song that they were referring to may have been Black. A lot of people think that's about abortion. I don't. I can't tell if you were joking or if your comment was serious, because I thought this was common knowledge.

When I saw them live back in May he introduced this as being "the worst case scenario" for someone in the military, then went on to say the Garden of Stone was a military cemetary.

I dunno if this is correct, or if anyone agrees with me... But to me its about death and how we all die, regardless of what happens in our lives. Furthermore, all our loved ones and people we see on the street die, it must be accepted in life and faced, there is no use attempting to become 'immortal.' Plus, most importantly, that all the technology we develop, wealth we gain and exploitation involved is worthless, because we all end up dead ("I only question, our modern needs").

whohemademe and blksky:
why you choose this forum to explain things that are not related with the theme un here? i have no problem with your religious message, but I think you can go to religious web page, canīt you? and blksky, you really think PJ songīs are that superficial?, I think you havenīt been paying attention to the lyrics. Nirvana and PJ didnīt go on so well, but that doesnīt mean one is over another, just 2 great bands.
I agree with the nowadays lifestyle version of the song, there are so many things we just donīt need, we have lost the true meaning of life.
