Lyrics for Jesus, I as interpreted by WriGGaLo

Jesus, I Lyrics
Jesus, I

Jesus, i've taken my cross
i'll leave and follow me
jesus, i've taken my cross
i'll leave and follow me

destitutes, despise, forsaken
i'll leave and follow me
i'll leave and follow me
jesus

perish every fool division
all i've sought and hope to know
yell out which is my commission
god and heaven i'm on my own
god and heaven i'm on my own

man mad trouble to distress me
to drive this heart to the cross
man made trouble to distress me
to drive my heart to the cross
resolute, reborn, reborn
reborn, reborn, reborn, reborn

jesus, i've taken my cross
i'll leave and follow me
jesus, i've taken my cross
i'll leave and follow me

perish every fool division
all i've sought and hope to know
yell out which is my commission
god and heaven i'm on my own

i'm waiting for my man
26 hours in my hand
hey white boy
what you doin' downtown
hey white boy
what you doin' chasing all the pretty women around

downtown, downtown, downtown
gonna hitch a ride
downtown, downtown, downtown
gonna hitch a ride

hitchin' a ride
hitchin' a ride
hitchin' a ride
itchin' to die
hitchin' a ride
itchin' to die
hitchin' a ride
itchin' to die

jesus
jesus

i'm resolute, reborn
{?}
forsaken, {?}
destroyed, resolute
reborn, reborn
reborn, reborn
reborn

jesus
j-e-s-u-s
jesus
j-e-s-u-s
jesus
j-e-s-u-s
jesus

I've only heard a live version of this song and i loved it. Guess there are only LIVE versions of it right now. Either way, after reading the lyrics...to me it sounds like Billy's ready to give up Jesus, and perhaps all organized religion to follow himself...his beliefs...what he believes in. Makes sense. You can have faith...maybe you shouldn't put it in an organization like the Church. Keep the faith...in yourself.

Actually, the correct lyric is "follow THEE"...it's taken from an old gospel hymn...Billy just made a new version. I find the numerous references to God on this CD really interesting...and I would love to talk to Billy about it, if I ever had the chance.

Yes, I believe it's also "God and heaven are all my own" if I'm correct.

This song is about Billy coming back. He left the the "religion" (Smashing Pumpkins) and a new "religion" (ZWAN) is born.

It's nothing Christian about this song.
Billy's old religion is Smashing pumpkin.
He has taken his cross and started the new religion ZWAN.

lamby has an interesting point not sure whether it's right but something to think about. the person who posted this song got lots of the lyrics wrong. It's an obscure old hymn in an antique religious book that Billy bought. The song is awesome - 14 minutes of prog-rock perfection. JxPx i agree with you. I doubt Billy Corgan is a Christian, but if youre that anti-Christian that youd stop listening if he did, youve got problems

Jesus I / Mary Star Of The Sea

jesus, i've taken my cross
all to leave and follow thee
jesus, i've taken my cross
all to leave and follow thee

i'm destitute, despised, forsaken
all to leave and follow thee
and follow thee

man may trouble to distress me
to drive my heart to the cross
yeah, man may trouble to distress me
to drive this heart to the cross

i'm resolute, reviled, forsaken
all to leave and follow thee
and follow thee

jesus
jesus
jesus
reborn
reborn
reborn
reborn

so perish every fond ambition
god and trouble are all i've known
yet how rich is my condition
god and heaven are all my own
god and heaven are all my own

rooms full of salt
fault my pluck
and a poets charm so far, ever far
little stars that burn the holes in my soul

and everything just feels like rain
the road we're on, the things we crave
and everything just feels like rain
the nights i sleep, what's left to dream
when everything feels like rain

drift as i dive
find the deep
out of reach of all light
stars, ever far
listless tides along the changing shore

and everything just feels like rain
the road we're on, the things we crave
and everything just feels like rain
if i should sleep, what's left to dream
when everything feels like rain

Billy didn't actually write this song. some parts were taken from a lou reed song and someone else by the name "lyte". Remember, Zwan is not all controlled by Billy, and thats what he likes as opposed the pumpkins where he had almost all creative controll. I think of this song as more of a revolution within yourself, than conforming to a certain religion.

Not to sound like a pompus asshole, which I probably will end up sounding like anyway, but the January 30th post on www.billycorgan.com hints that Billy Corgan possibly follows the teachings of the catholic faith.

If you read some of Billy Corgan's diary entries on his site you'll see that he's not a Catholic. He believes in God, but as a more New Age sort of concept from what I can gather, rather than the God of the Bible.
This from his site: "when the zwan record came out, i was questioned many times about my religious beliefs because of the inclusion of the song "jesus"...the basic question went something like this "are you a spiritual person" or "have you discovered God" or my favorite, "are you born again"? ...I did not feel that a cd release on a major label that i was out there trying to hawk with a bunch of immoral bandmates ... was a place to talk about the deepest of issues"

actually, seeing as i've gone to Christian school all of my life except my senior year, i should know that the "new age" God cherub rock mentions is virtually the same as the God in the Bible. you can call one Allah and one Buddah or whatever you want, but the fact is they're the same thing(it's where that whole omnipotence/omnipresence thing applies). sure, a lot of morons make God out to be a white bearded guy up in the clouds, which is why a lot of people don't believe in or understand the concept of God. which is why you hear idiots saying things like, "If there's a God, then where is he?", or "If there's a God, then why doesn't he do something about the way the world is?". anyways, *shuts up about God*, the mention of following Jesus is about not following rules, but following love, love for whatever you believe in. and thanks for the authentic lyrics, cherub rock(best pumpkins song), and to whoever originally posted those lyrics, IF YOU CANNOT HEAR, THEN YOU SHOULD NOT POST SONG LYRICS!!! honestly.

oh wait, i forgot that bands aren't supposed to sing about what they believe in, or are they? see, drummerchick, not only should you not be allowed to speak, but dumbasses like you shouldn't even be allowed to think. i listen to good music regarless of what "religion" it's makers are, because that's what it's all about.

wait, the drums on this song aren't even good. zwan's drums are totally old school, which i guess some people like, but if you want to hear good drums, listen to Tool.

I think jimmy does a great job on Jesus, I/Mary Star of the Sea. He plays thru the whole song without any pauses.

I agree with TREXOR and thedungbeetle...this song is about Christianity, peace, and joy. But take a look at the Smashing Pumpkins lyrics, and you'll find many similar topics. Billy has always written about God and Jesus, however, he is now writing from a different perspective. With the Pumpkins, he was pleading with God to deliver him from loneliness/help him find his way back from the darkness, etc. Now, he is writing (singing, actually, since he didn't write the lyrics to the Jesus I part of the song) about the peace he is finding in God, Jesus, and his religion. Is he Catholic? Who cares? Being Catholic myself, I can tell everyone that Catholicism is just a strict and traditional way of embracing God. It is not much different from any Protestant branch of Christianity--we all believe in the same basic catechism. But if the title you put on Billy's religion matters to you, I think even Billy wouldn't want you listening to his music.

I think that Billy's sympathizing with Jesus. Saying that they were both crucified unjustly. And now Billy's come back to life again.

Just my 2¢.
