Lyrics for Emma Blowguns Last Stand as interpreted by rexmanning137

Emma Blowguns Last Stand Lyrics
goodness knows its been a wonderful run
the autumn lakes where the children were swans
your mothers convictions and your fathers predictions dont seem so insane
they laugh they say your treasures are fake but dont throw it away
youve been framed with a beautiful name
youve been saved but youve lost your head
with halos and friends the trinity saves but three is a crowd
you flirt you drink you cant stop your winking at the boys at the bar
all you need is a gun and a car
a country song if you dont have a heart
my cowboys and indians and the falls and aminions where the highways are far
when all you know your shadows a ghost dont let it scare you away

Hmmm... I think this song is about a girl, or woman, who unintentionally gets pregnant and kills herself. Here's my interpretation, I could very well be wrong...

"Goodness knows it's been a wonderful run..."
This is the first indication that "Emma" is contemplating suicide, she's looking back on her life.

"The Autumn lakes where the children are swans"
This could be the place where Emma's unborn child was conceived.

"Your mothers convictions and your fathers predictions don't seem so insane...
they laugh they say your treasures are fake but don't throw it away..."
Emma's parents probably always thought she would do something like get pregnant at a young age. Before, she thought they were insane to think it could happen, but now that it has all her parents can do is laugh at the situation, and tell her that her "treasure", or child, is "Fake", or not a blessing. At the same time they tell her not to "throw it away", or terminate the child.

"you've been framed with a beautiful name" = The father has abandoned Emma

"you've been saved but you've lost your head" = Emma went to the church for help, but it didn't work out.
"with halos and praise the trinity saves but three's a crowd" = basically, God is good and all, but nothing beats "Three", the Father Son and Holy spirit, as well as Emma, her child, and it's father.

"you flirt you drink you can't stop your winking at the boys at the bar" = since the church didn't help, Emma is trying to find some guy who she can get to be the father.

"all you need is a gun and a car" = two things Emma needs to get away and kill herself with.

"a country song if you don't have the heart
about cowboys and injuns and the paltry dominions where the highways are far" = A lot of country songs are sad and or full of nostalgia, which would put Emma in the mood to kill herself, if she didn't have the heart to do it.

"when all you know foreshadows a ghost don't let it scare you away" = the singer, or whoever is singing the song basically telling Emma not to kill herself. The ending is totally ambiguous though, we never find out what becomes of Emma, which is part of what makes it a great song.

Hey, if you already mind posting the lyrics, how 'bout putting capitals and apostrophes? I hate that bloody laziness... Nothing personal, though.
This is not only my favorite Beulah song, but one of my favorite E6 songs altogether. The long intro is splendid.

miles kurosky is crazy, i watched the documentary on Beulah, he honestly is crazy. Sometimes we can't put into words what we want to say, translating emotions into words is just impossible if you're trying to capture that real feeling. and this seems to be a sensitive topic. Perhaps this song is about the stage in your life between adolescence and adulthood, "it's been a wonderful run" and also mentioning mom and dad laughing at your treasures. it's a girl it seems who is struggling to find herself, she's caught between the fact that she's beautiful and probably has a lot of fun partying, but is being told by her peers that she needs to get it together.

excuse me for attempting to find a better meaning of the song ::makes heartbroken face::

and, it says "foreshadows a ghost" not "your shadow's a ghost"....upon further investigation you will be forced to realize it as well

right now im trying to decipher what the song means...and i have a personal defitnition of it but my favorite line is the beginning one. "goodness knows its been a wonderful run"..its like ..to me..thinking back on ones life and just saying that together its been wonderful-the bad and the good..and its just like wow it was all worth it...OR i think one could say that someone is depressed and theyre sarcastically saying it...uhhhh course thats the first line..

Imbrifer: "after downloading 25 of their songs, ive kept 23"

er, he meant that he's kept all but two of their songs.. read more carefully.

This is my favorite Beulah song, and after downloading 25 of their songs, ive kept 23 (on a total list of 200 songs). To me, several parts of this song point to a life with little purpose, but a life still of value and the person who is being spoken of is very uncertain. If i had to summarize this song briefly (as it means to me), i'd just say it is a Sigh.
