In my opinoin, this song is about someone in an abusive relationship. If you've seen the video, in the beginning the girl is "gothic" and wearing alot of make up (to cover the bruises). The person is obviously trying to stop the abuse, from the lyrics in the song, but they cannot find a way out. They are lost and alone. No one knows, so they can't get any help from anyone. They don't know who they are anymore because there life has become so much like a movie and they don't understand why they can't controll themselves and leave, tell someone, get any kind of help. It's like they aren't in controll of thier lives anymore.

ok this was first LP song I ever heard and let's just say the lyrics gave me the chills and I was hooked after the first time listening to it

anywayz, I don't care what anybody says, they are a good band, take it and shove it, the lyrics are actually better than a lot of other bands and they actually have meaning...

i'm not a major fan of linkin park but i like this song. i heard an interview one time where chester says that he was abused as a child and that video seems to imply that that chick was being sexually abused by her boyfriend or whatever.

k, first of all, there are billions of songs out there.
any person can have any opinion of what they think
about a certain song and the artist.

I personally love Linkin Park's music. But I still respect that not everyone will like them and may even hate them. Nobody needs to start calling other people derogatory words or tell them to shove it. This includes both LP fans and LP Haters.

Now, I don't consider myself to be a hardcore rocker/metalists/rockon/punk or whatever you want to call it.

Some of my favourite bands include Disturbed, Trust Company, Project Wyze, Iced Earth, Korn, Metallica, Fuel, SR-71, Live, Adema, Aerosmith, Hoobastank. And not just for their radio releases like some of you may think, but for their whole albums.

But I also listen to a lot of other artists that are totally different and have different music styles such as Eminem, DMX, KJ-52, NAS, MosDef, Kid Rock, Justin Timberlake, Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Boyz II Men, Backstreet Boys, NSync, Our Lady of Peace, Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses, and a whole bunch of diverse artists. That's me, and your entitled to your opinion whether I have bad taste in music or not.

For the meaning of Crawling,
As some pointed out before, there could be many
interpretations of this song as well as many of LP's songs.

Ell's interpretation about drug abuse at the very beginning and Famous' on 06-06-02 about not knowing who you are were the closest for me.
It may also be about physical/sexual abuse in a relationship as someone else said.
Who knows, it could also be about getting something shoved in your ass, like that guy said.
whatever floats his boat. I don't think that was the
case when the Writer/Chester (can't remember if he was the one that wrote it) was writing it.

For me, it's about insecurity and low self-esteem, self-confidence and self-control.
"Against my will, I stand beside my own reflection"...
To me, this line could be someone looking at himself and his life, and just hating it, thus against his will. Although he can probably leave, he just can't help but look at himself and hate.

this is linkin parks heaviest song and is my fav. its really cool coz i can relate 2 it totally. at 1st i thrt it was a bout suicide then i think it is about abuse - watch the video it explains a lot. this song rox!!

this song is about chester (lead singer of linkin park) and his obsession with anal pleasuring gerbils.

chester, (lead singer of linkin park) as we all know, he loves to take it up the poop shoot. one day he took it a bit too far, he put a gerbil in his asshole. well, this song is about the tragedy of this poor gerbil, stuck in the perils of chesters ass. chester speaks about how he thinks that the gerbil is his is causing him great pain, thus the line : "These wounds they will not heal"

well, we all know now that chester is a ass ramming, butt pirate. he loves his own stool, and that, my friends is why i dont have a pet, or a linkin park cd...
