Lyrics for Crawling as interpreted by Matt

Crawling Lyrics
Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

There’s something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
Consuming, confusing
This lack of self control I fear is never ending
Controlling I can’t seem
To find myself again
My walls are closing in
Without a sense of confidence, I’m convinced
there's just too much pressure to take
I’ve felt this way before
So insecure

Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

Discomfort, endlessly has pulled itself upon me
Distracting, reacting
Against my will I stand beside my own reflection
It’s haunting how I can’t seem
To find myself again
My walls are closing in
Without a sense of confidence, I’m convinced
there's just too much pressure to take
I’ve felt this way before
So insecure

Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real (x2)

This song is awesome because it tells you a story that someone else has already been through and how it totally changed them as a person. It changed how they feel about themselves, it's changed how they look at themselves in the mirror, it's changed how others look at them. It has changed some of the key points about that person; as the song goes on, it tells how they person doesn't know what to do with themselves because they're such a total mess and no one wants to be seen with them. It also tells the untold stories of those people who never spoke up about how they've been treated by other people and by themselves. Those are the reasons I absolutely love this song and this band.

'Crawling' narrates a phase in the life of few or one of the band members possibly now but most likley in the past. It is the coming to terms being on heroin. It is the thoughts of an addicted user, how they condemn themselves for 'using' (It’s haunting how I can’t seem
To find myself again) yet, just see it as an easy way out (Without a sense of confidence, I’m convinced
there's just too much pressure to take ) The person keeps on going back to the drug regardless of its consequences (crawling in my skin, these wounds they will not heal) Wounds wont heal due to the fact of frequent use. Because of the drug the person has lost himself, has gone into complete self hating mode. They know that the drug is harmful but see it a a right thing to do (Confusing what is real) Only after a period of being in denial does this person realise what the drug has caused and lacks esteem to get themself out of the circle the seem to go through. The song is stating that heroin/drugs is more then a physical thing and the mental side of it all is just or perhaps even worse.

This is just a great song, overall, and an awesome video as well. he broken mirror look reflects, no pun intended, to me of a broken story and missing pieces. The girl in the video was a great addition to the whole story. The video was just awesome..and the song is one that I could listen to more than once in any given day.
Listen and Feel.

I have a friend that has panic disorder...when she heard this she got chills. This is almost exactly what is going through her mind when she's suffering from a panic attack. They're very scary and these words describe what she's thinking about how she's feeling...
Fear is how I fall: the reason she always falls into these panic attacks is fear of everything around her
Confusing what is real: when you're in them, everything around you doesn't seem real and it's hard to figure what is and isn't
There's something inside of me that pulls beneath the surface: it's something inside of her and it's all she knows is that it's a medical problem caused by no apparent reason
Consuming, confusing: it totally consumes her body and her mind and it's so confusing
This lack of self-control is neverending: she has no self-control
I can't seem to find myself again: she doesn't feel that she'll ever get out of it and this feeling acts as if it will never go away
Too much pressure to take: it's an attack of extreme anxiety
I've felt this way before: she's constantly suffering from these attacks
Discomfort....: her physical and mental being are extrememly full of discomfort and no matter how hard she tries she can't get comfortable
Distracting....: she can't think
Against my will I stand beside my own reflextion: it's so haunting how she can't control herself and how surreal the whole seen is

If this makes sense or not to anyone...I know that if you just listen to these words, what is being described is everything that's spinning around in her mind in a matter of moments and this spinning will not stop. Fear consumes her body and she absolutely cannot get out of any of that fear...It's a horrible thing to go through, but this song and many, MANY other Linkin Park lyrics give her a sense of comfort...knowing that perhaps there's someone else who knows how's she's feeling or how she's felt...

"Crawling" is without a doubt, ANOTHER great song by Linkin Park but I don't feel it's up to par music wise but it sports an excellent video. I'm not saying it's bad, just not at the mark that Linkin Park set on it's "Hybrid Theory" CD. There is a very meaningful yet chilling story within this song that some people can relate to and I'm sorry to hear that some people actually can relate to this song. All in all, it's a good song, not Linkin Park's greatest but the bands first hit, I believe.. I'd give it a solid 7/10.

just like a boy band... i was told that linkin park was put together... which.. in my thoughts.. is awesome to have a group of musically talented dudes put their art together.... well crawling is an awesome... its amazing how these words are so true... you want to change you want to walk a new path... but something is dragging you down... and its hard to overcome that... sometimes you do but you have the thought of falling again.. its cool cause these words are true.. everyone has something holding them back... maybe this isnt what the song means... but to me this is how i take it to mean... linkin park really is awesome though...

Pretty much about depression, Ell you were close with the heroine bit too, but if the song refers to his own personal depression, they are talking about cocaine.

another very general song. read my post on one step closer, in fact all linkin parks songs are general, thats why they get accross to so many people. i mean thats not a bad thing, but it is a way of selling alot of records.

Yeah , don't like linken park at all, they are rock posers. They're lyrics are sort of predictable and see through, no real depth unless you go searching for it. Blah, dont like this song at all :S

This is possibly the best song by Linkin Park, which is by the way the best band ever! This song I believe is about an abusive partner. The girl in the video is constantly abused and mistreated by her lover. She feels that she is stuck there with him, in this situation. The girl's wounds were given by the lover and they wont help. She is dissapointed to find out that the guy she loved once, has turned into a monster. "The walls are closing in", for she does not know what to do.She also feels so "insecure" and so "unreal" about the situation. The "Crawling" part represents the pressure and abuse of her boyfriend affecting her. She cries for help, since she feels helpless.

sane, you said "no real depth unless you go searching for it." You basically said that depth is supposed to be superficial. That makes absolutely no sense. Things may appear superficial but may actually have a real meaning, but one just has to look for it. Your statement contradicts itself.

i htink what she was trying to say, was an agreement with me, they have no depth because they mean something to everyone, they are about simple depression and drug addiction which so many people go through, its not suprising they sell so many records, if you look at what people are writing its all " oh this means so much to me, cos i was depressed once" all for various reasons but the same general end proposition, depression, wether mild or serious.

This song (as well as the entire album) is about depression but yet each one if different. For example,
One Step Closer" is about the anger of depression and
"In The End" is about wanting to kill yourself cause you feel so overwhelmed. "Crawling" is about the sad part of depression and just not wanting to do anything. When this cd came out I was going though a very bad time and I think this CD really helped. Someone told me this song is about a Mental Patient but I dont think thats true. This is probably the best album to come along in my lifetime. Linkin Park is so amazing. And SANE you must be retarded.

HELLO!?

It's obvious that this song is about being penetrated in the butt. The lyrics are quite clear about that!

Chester is all : "There’s something inside me that pulls beneath the surface" and "My walls are closing in". Not to mention the line about "there's just too much pressure to take
".

Can't you people see? Listen to this song (Yes, I know it hurts to) and have that in mind.

"These wounds they will not heal" indeed.

Poor Chester's getting raped in the arse! FEEL HIS PAIN!

It could also be about self-hatred, that's what I always think of the song as saying. I identify well with it.
