Lyrics for Buddha For Mary as interpreted by earthsick

Buddha For Mary Lyrics
- This is the life
- This is the life
A simple fear to wash you away
- This is the life
- This is the life
An open mind cancelled it today
- This is the life
- This is the life
A silent song that's in your words
- This is the life
- This is the life
A different taste that's in your mind

This is the life on Mars
This is the life on Mars

Mary was a different girl
Had a thing for astronauts
Mary was the type of girl
She always liked to play a lot
Mary was a holy girl
Father wet her appetite
Mary was the type of girl
She always liked to fall apart

Tell me did you see her face?
Tell me did you smell her taste?
Tell me what's the difference,
Don't they all just look the same inside?

Buddha for Mary, here it comes!

Mary was an acrobat
But still she couldn't seem to breathe
Mary was becoming everything she didn't want to be
Mary would hallucinate
And see the sky upon the wall
Mary was the type of girl
She always liked to fly

Tell me did you see her face?
Tell me did you smell her taste?
Tell me what's the difference,
Don't they all just look the same inside?

Buddha for Mary, here it comes!
Buddha for Mary, here it comes!

This is the life on Mars
This is the life on Mars
This is the life on Mars
This is the life

He said, "Can you here me, are you sleeping?"
She said, "Will you rape me now?"
He said, "Leave the politics to mad men"
She said, "I believe your lies"
He said, "There's a paradox beneath me"
She said, "Am I supposed to bleed?"
He said, "You'd better pray to Jesus"
She said, "I don’t believe in God"

Mary was a different girl
Had a thing for astronauts
Mary was the type of girl
She always liked to play a lot
Mary was a holy girl
Father wet her appetite
Mary was the type of girl
She always liked to fall, a-
Part!

Buddha for Mary, here it comes!
Buddha for Mary, here it comes!
Buddha for Mary, here it comes!
Here it comes!

Maybe I'm trying too hard, but I'm getting images of "Sister Mary" from the Operation:Mindcrime album... a woman who is very young, manipulated, raped, drugged, yet rebellious. That "he said, she said" bridge gives me GOOSEBUMPS! That's the song they did when Jared climbed onto the pavillion and sang to the crowd out on the back lawn!

Just to be pedantic, it should be 'whet' not 'wet'. No big difference but little grammatical things like that just bug me.

One of the first I heard, excellent song. Return2zero, I know what you mean about the bridge, it's killer. Found it funny when he got the lyrics wrong in an acoustic performance, cracks me up.

i think this song is about religion straight up, and how it's not what it used 2 b
"He said, "Can you here me, are you sleeping?"
She said, "Will you rape me now?"
He said, "Leave the politics to mad men"
She said, "I believe your lies"
He said, "There's a paradice beneath me"
She said, "Am I supposed to bleed?"
He said, "You'd better pray to Jesus"
She said, "I don’t believe in God" this is the essence of the song really, buddah being eastern religions, and mary being western religions, when he ask can u hear me are you sleeping, that's like the eastern religions kind of joking on how christianity is going down hill, and when she says will you rape me now, thats western religions morals, how we accept pre marital sex as ok in modern society, when he says leave the politics to mad men, thats how level headed the eastern religions r, they worry just about their religion and don't let politics in2 the church, when she says i believe your lies, thats like when the parish TRIES 2 turn it's head to things that aren't right with the church, when he says there's a paridise beneath me, that shows that they believe christianity CAN b a good religion, but just needs to fix itself, "am i supposed to bleed?" is saying how we do things without KNOWING the consequnces and our blind faith (yes i know that what nearly ALL religions rely on) and finally, " you better pray to jesus" "i don't believe in god" thats shows how christianity has lost it's way, and how most people say things and do things, but don't always have faith in what they do (this doesn't go for every1, but just the majority of people, i know that religion is still alive and well, but it is slowly losing it's power and meaning to the masses)

A girl that's not like the rest. But seriously, I think it's about religion as well. Also, the person who commented with new lyrics. Do you really think that the lyrics are "Fuck about?" Cause that's wrong.

I'm a huge fan of Prog, Acid and the original Space Rock genres; Pink Floyd and King Crimson are my indisputable favourite bands. My brother likes typical modern-day rock and some emo, and one day I heard him listening to this bands latest singal, "From Yesterday". Although it seemed a little to commercialized for me, I thought that 30 Seconds To Mars may be worth looking into. I bought the self-titled album, and I gotta say, this is pretty good. Nowhere near my faves, but this band has talent. I was really surprised to learn that Jared Leto writes all of their songs... He certainly has some skill. I think, however, that their latest album, "Beautiful Lie" is taking them down an overly commercialized path... I hope that they return to their older material. This song really stuck out to me... I've really never heard anything quite like it. It has so much more meaning than other songs these days.

Anyway, my two pence.

Shine On...

at first when i heard the demo version, i thought this song was about a girl and when she was younger, she was a devout christian and now she's grown up and doing drugs (hallucinating) and having sex (will you rape me now) which are against her religion. but now that i hear this version i totally agree with tendo87. and i can totally relate to this. recently, i became an atheist and buddhism is a non-theistic (no god) philosophy more than a religion. i see how this can be about a girl leaving behind her old tradition. also, science has started replacing a lot of old religious beliefs and today, more and more people are leaving behind their faith.

I have to agree that this song is about religion. I don't think it's about a person but rather the institution of religion and it's metamorphesis.

"Mary was a different girl
Had a thing for astronauts
Mary was the type of girl
She always liked to fall apart
Mary was a holy girl
Father whet her appetite
Mary was the type of girl
She always liked to fuck about"

I think this part describes the nature of Christianity in a way. Mary- Christianity- was a different girl- religion- and she hada thing for astronauts- dreamers and those aiming for something above and in outer space. Yet she liked to fall apart, wreak havoc, flakey actions and whimsy defined her. Father -god- whet her appetite, yet she liked to "fuck about" and venture into different areas completely off topic to what was really supposed to concern her.

"Tell me did you see her face?
Tell me did you smell her taste?
Tell me what's the difference,
Don't they all just look the same inside?

Buddha for Mary, here it comes!"

This is just asking if you've felt it, seen it, experienced it and then thought that it was all always the same crap, different presentation and then he proclaims "Budda for Mary here it comes". One religion to replace another.

"Mary was an acrobat
But still she couldn't seem to breathe
Mary was becoming
Everything she didn't want to be
Mary would hallucinate
And see the sky upon the wall
Mary was the type of girl
She always liked to fly"

Mary -christianity- was an acrobat and could shift shapes and twist and turn in every direction yet it never got the chance to breathe and slowly Christianity turned into something which it was not meant to be. Mary- christianity- would hallucinate and lie to itself and abd "see the sky upon the wall". It was confined, blocked in, caged, yet it saw false freedom and skies above. Christianty liked to fly, but within it's walls it remained.

"He said
Can you hear me are you sleeping
She said
Will you rape me now
He said
Leave the politics to madmen
She said
I believe your lies
He said
There's a paradise beneath me
She said
Am I supposed to bleed
He said
You better pray to jesus
She said
I don't believe in god"

This part is just about the downfall of Christianity in my opinions. It's about the temptation and Christianity's fall from grace. The "evil" or whatnot spoke and Christinity listened and started believing the lies and got caught up with politics and once again, went off topic into territory it had no business in and Christinity lost all of which defined it and stopped believing in Jesus so to speak.
