"cause all of the stars, have faded away" to me that means like all your hope, all the good you see in life has gone.
"take what you need and be on your way" means like take your pills, or gun or whatever have you and do what you feel you need to,
"May your smile shine on" is like may people remember the good you left behind.

This part of the lyrics I'd say had predicted the return of my neighbor moving back in. I didn't think I'd ever see her again until I friended her on MySpace and did some catching up. Unfortunately I don't think I can say the same thing for my other one.
To me the whole point of what the song is saying is that friends come and go.

It's a very difficult time for oasis to rise their popularity again at the time. they struggled to keep exist in music world and rise again as the best rock band in the world. A lot of fans worried about them. So oasis made this song to convinced all the fans that they will keep exist and vice versa, oasis made this song for themself! The don't need to worry because the fans won't left them!.

Basically accepting any mistake you did in the past, because the past is the past and you cant change it( You'll never change whats been and gone). It gives hope and relieve by stating that things will get better along the way (Cause all of the stars are fading away, just try not to worry you'll see them someday) ...
I often wonder that when Noel wrote the songs, was he thinking with Liam in mind and writing about him? And that when Liam sang them, he never realised they were about him and that he was singing about himself. It's so sad, really :(
