To me, this song means how everyone wants be by themselves at one point or another. They want to be alone because either they're mad at someone, someone is mad at them and they can't bear the burden of having someone of that stature mad at them, or some other unknown reason. For whatever reason it may be, that person does not the whole world to see them, for any reason at all. I know, personally, I can relate to this song, and every other song on the Hybrid Theory LP, because my family is constantly making me mad and I always wanna be left alone when I'm at home; so this song is nothing new to me. Or any other teens for that matter. I LOVE THIS SONG TOTALLY!!!!!!

I can't explain exactly how this song makes me feel, but when I read it, I felt like someone had looked at a page in my diary and wrote it out, or looked into my head and showed me what I was feeling. It's an amazing song.

This song has a strong meaning to me.. I am what is called bi-polar.. it is a chronic depression that i was diagnosed with.. *shrugs* the lyrics in this song truely shows the pain that life can deal out on your front door..

it should be their next single, but it won't be. they're not going to release any more single until their next album comes out. i wish they'd release this one, and with you. that's kinda funny: i think they should release By Myself and With You. does anyone else find that amusing, or have i completely lost my mind??

actually i'm wrong, the next single they're releasing is with you, after paper cut!! wow, i just did a little research, and i found that out on www.linkin-park.com it's an "underground site" with all sorts of info! it's cool. i'm excited!! yay!!! :-D

This song is the lesser of 2 evils kind of meaning. If you do one thing, then you will be burned. If you do the other thing, you will still be burned. It is just so totally easy to relate to.

I LOVE THIS SONG!!. I agree with you the edge, it does sound like a lesser of 2 kinds of evil. This is probably one of my fav songs, because its easy to relate to, just like most of linkin parks songs...Tis why they are popular and cool because they know the problems people face out in the world and incorporate them into music which is great! Good thinking music also for homework!! :)

this song definitely was my anger vent when i was depressed last year. i used to blare it in my room and piss my parents off. but i had a lot of shit happening and then my friends went bitchy and i started falling downspiral.

I really like this song, the lyrics mean a lot to me.
Do you just ignore your thoughts and try to deny everything? Or do you give into it and feel miserable? My friends for a while were all doing shit and I was getting really pissed off, they were all gettin into drugs, so that's what the next couple lines mean to me. Do I sit here and try to stand it? Or do I try to catch them red-handed? You are lonely, you someone. Do you just keep getting hurt time after time in relationships, or do you just forget it and live in your loneliness.
Too many questions, it's so hard and you don't know what to do. Everyone around you thinks you're fine, you'r doing all the right things, you're puttin on your brave face but it's inside, by yourself that all the problems are. You don't know what to do, you're so confused, everything is like spinning and you're stressed out, and there are no answers. And in the end, it just comes down to yourself, you can't rely on yourself. And these thoughts lead to insecurities and "thoughts of failure sinking in".

to me, this song means that they can't trust anyone. Meaning that your best firend can be cool with you one day and then turn and be a back stabber the next day. The songs about how we al have bad times in life and theres nothing we can do about it.

I think that this song is like defining ur own life while looking in. sumtimes ppl try and tell u how to live ur life...but they need to back the fuck off because its ur life...no1 can tell u how to live it or wut to do. no matter how many mistakes ur gonna make...u'll learn from them and u cant be saved from inevitable mishaps....its all about serendipity.
