Look at all those fancy clothes
But these gonna keep us warm, just like those
What about your soul?
Is it cold?
Is it straight from the mold and ready to be sold?

Cars and phones and diamond rings, bling bling
Those are only removable things
What about your mind, does it shine?
Or are there things that concern you more than your time?

Gone
Goin'
Gone everything
Gone give a damn
Gone be the birds when they don't want to sing
Gone people all awkward with their things
Gone

Look at you out to make a deal
You try be appealing but you lose your appeal
What about those shoes you're in today?
They'll do no good on the bridges you brought along the way, oh
You willing to sell anything, gone with your head
Leave your footprints, well shame them with our words
Gone people, all careless and consumed, gone

Gone
Goin'
Gone everything
Gone give a damn
Gone be the birds if they don't want to sing
Gone people all awkward with their things
Gone

I've been a fan of Jack for a long time now. When I heard this "new" song on a live bootleg of the Bimbo's show I got chills. This song is special

i like the lyrics to this song...i think maybe its about an ex girlfriend...or someone he knew in the past who made it big. they have all these fancy things...nice clothes and diamonds and cars and money...but like he says in the song "and what about those shoes you're in today they'll do no good on the bridges you've burnt along the way..." i think that is telling this person that no matter how rich you are now and no matter how much you try to show it off...you severed a lot of relationships to get there...and was it really worth it? and the part "leave your footprints and we'll shame them with our words" i like..because its so true. if someone changes you sooooo much and then leaves you for something "better" no matter what it is, you will always hold a grudge against them...

i think this song is definately about how much people cherish material things in life more than relationships, it might be about a particular person, like an old girlfriend...or it could just be about people in general. but i totally know what he means in this song, these lyrics mean alot to me. when he says"gone people all awkward with their things gone." it pretty much sums it up, because hes saying that once you have all your stupid material things...youll be left always looking for something more.

I love jack johnson. i live in Santa barbara (where he went to school) You don't even have to listen to the words, although it makes it all that much better, just listen to the music. It reminds me of home and exactly the mood in SANTA BARBARA!!!

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
