Today, I feel like pleasing you
More than before
Today, I know what I want to do
But I don't know what for
To be living for you
Is all I want to do
To be loving you
It'll all be there
When my dreams come true

Today, you'll make me say
That I somehow have changed
Today, you'll look into my eyes
I'm just not the same
To be any more than all I am
Would be a lie
I'm so full of love
I could burst apart
And start to cry

Today, everything you want
I swear it will all come true
Today, I realize how much
I'm in love with you
With you standing there
I could tell the world
What it means to love
To go on from here
I can't use words
They don't say enough

Please, please listen to me
It's taken so long to come true
It's all for you, all for you

My Interpretation:The lyrics to this song describe the feelings a person has at the moment they realize they are hopelessly, completely, irrevocably in love with someone else! They are those things that a person would want to say to their beloved. I know...I felt that way and I sang this song to her!

General Comment:also, i'd be disappointed if this was a romantic love song.
I think it's either about a parent-child relationship or one with God or the divine?

General Comment:i had heard a few jefferson songs before but kind of left it at that ..
I've been getting quite into this hip hop band called Cold Legistics recently and they sampled this song in one of theirs called Deja Vu. i looked it up and i'm glad i did.
the song gets okay as it progresses but it sounds more fresh and pure at the beginning. the first verse really captures me but then it goes away.

General Comment:Some think the love is consummated, others think it's not.

I take this song as love, consummated, again and again.

"Today I feel like pleasing you more than before".

The imagery is very, ummmh, oral.

My Opinion:This song is too beautiful. The eerie, serpentine electric guitar riff over humble and honest fingerpicking creates a darkly intimate atmosphere, the tambourine adds a wild pulse or heartbeat, and the vocals of both Marty Balin and also Grace Slick on backup are yearning and ethereal. The lyrics are so passionate, especially "I'm so full of love, I could burst apart and start to cry" and "To go on from here I can't use words, they don't say enough" on through to the end, which just explodes in feeling. This song just leaves me speechless.

General Comment:I have just been introduced to Jefferson Airplane and this was the second album by them that I've listened to, the first being "After Bathing at Baxter's." This song didn't immediately have an effect on me until I was sitting and really listening to the music. You know those moments where you've got your headphones on and you really connect with a song, it was like that. It hit an emotional cord with me and I haven't been able to shake it since. This song has such a medlodic tune, impressive lyrics, and a resonance unlike most songs. Anyone who have ever experienced unrequited love relates with what this song tries to express. All in all, an amazing song and I cannot wait to experience more of Jefferson Airplane's music.

General Comment:To me, this song is about seeing someone. And at first it's just a passing crush, and you see obvious flaws in them. There are moments where you're so close to saying 'I love you'. Like maybe asking them on a date or being alone. This transformation comes from wanting to do everything to be near them. And after that moment of near confession, you never speak of it again. You can't. You try talking again, but there's a block. Despite that, whenever you are alone you can speak freely. But the closeness of the public, and your inward fears stop it. You keep telling yourself you'll get over it, but then years pass until you finally realize. Today, I love that person.

My God, what a response that awoke in me. Seriously, when was the last time you, the reader, have been moved so heavily by emotion? This song has arisen something in me I never thought music could.
