As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty-odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they're telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill

A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me

General Comment:"By giving you no time in stead of it all". is one of the best lines written. This is something so essential but doesnt land at all. All other evils are an exponent of this. It takes time for wisdom and life can't be treated like a competition. Be the change you want to inspire and forget the MAN and remember the wise. You might make people besides yourselves happy along the way...

General Comment:Can anybody remember the old flip style juke-boxes in the pubs? You would flip the pages until you found your chosen song then you would have a choice to play either the A side or the B side. No matter where you went to - every jukebox you tried would never allow you to play the B side to Imagine which was this song - working class hero. I wonder why? The genius John Lennon again using the censorship tactic to further express his message to a much wider audience!

Song Meaning:John Lennon will always be one of my heroes. I am still sad and angry that Beatle John is gone. The angry acoustic rocker Working Class Hero portrays society as it really is-Vindictive, uncaring and hideous! Johnny Rebel told the truth! We need more people like John to fight against the Bernie Madoffs of the world. John never believed in hypocrisy, religion, sex and money! He only believed in rock & roll and the truth! A working class hero is something to be! I will never forget Johnny Rebel! Rock in Peace, Beatle John!

General Comment:I don't think there would be punk rock without John Lennon, especially without this song. I don't have any extensive research to back that up, but just a gut feeling. Who was questioning and defying cultural norms of submission to capitalism before him? And he did it in such a chill way, he never made a big angry stink about it, he simply asked the questions. These days, it seems like Kurt Cobain's dynasty is still running its course, but he didn't sing with unfiltered conscience like John.

Song Meaning:to the working clas a hero is mainly someone who works till he drops dead.
while the propaganda working class hero is a civil rights fighter, but the working clas dont like those cause masses never like those who lift theire heads above the rests or worse tell them to change theire lives.
also they are told that by working hard and stop to care about others they can reach the top .
they never stood a chance cause they were already broken after scool, but they hold onto it
cause otherwise everthing in theire lives would've been in vain.
and even if one makes it
or starts with the golden spoon
    rich or poor
in the end all "fucking peasants"
nowadays the better to be seen in beeing chained to the mobile "forever and ever bound in service".

General Comment:I think this song is about the working class, people who do labor work, people who work hard! To me the line
"Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see"
means that we are so brainwashed by the media that we actually believe we have freedom, until everyone is equal there is no freedom.

General Comment:I think what should also be remembered is the context within which the song was written, Correct me if Im wrong but wasnt the song written around the 2nd half of 1970?
In the 10 years or so build up to this, Lennon would have been able to witness the student protests, rise of the new left, factor riots and perhaps greatest of all the labour movements of the 1960s,
These undoubtedly led to such a system being called into question, not that I'm saying that I believe Lennon to be a hardened communist, Im not aware exactly of his political views to be honest, but the witnessing of such events could not help but have an effect upon this song, and may indeed have led to it becoming a tirade against the capitalist system and the way in which it is able to sedate and give false hope to, the working classes

This could be bollocks to you guys, but I've got an essay due in on this kinda thing for tomorrow, and from preliminary reading, these are the ideas ive acquired
