Going out each day to score
She was no whore, but for me
Celebrating every day the way
She thought it should be

I don't know what to do
Now that pink has turned to blue
I don't know what to do
Now that pink has turned to blue

She was always by my side
And never tried to leave
Standing up for me, and like
A tree for what she believed

I don't know what to do
Now that pink has turned to blue
I don't know what to do
Now that pink has turned to blue

No more rope and too much dope
She's lying on the bed
Angels pacing, gently placing
Roses 'round her head

I don't know what to do
Now that pink has turned to blue
I don't know what to do
Now that pink has turned to blue
I don't know what to do
Now that pink has turned to blue
I don't know what to do

General Comment:I think This-is-a-low is right, but I never thought about it like that
and so is whoever said that it was the color of her lips, it's a double-intended metaphor

General Comment:Yes, the lyrics are truncated. okiraan got them all there in his post. And yes, it is most definitely about a set of lovers who are in the throes of heroin addiction. She would only whore herself out to help score dope for the both of them, but one day she did too much and died right there in the bed. That's the color of her skin as she dies...pink turns to blue, and he don't know what to do.

General Comment:The song has to be considered in the whole album meaning, that is... the story of an adolescent leaving home.
imho, this songs speaks about a girl (a whore... but she was a sort of a girlfriend) that helped him when he left home (she was always by my side...) and in the end she was found dead by him.

General Comment:Here's the full lyrics to the song:
Going out each day to score
    She was no wh*re
    But for me
    Celebrating every day
    The way
    She thought it should be

And I don't know what to do
Now that pink has turned to blue

She was always by my side
    And never tried
    To leave
    Standing up for me
    And like a tree
    For what she believed

    No more rope
    And too much dope
    She's lying on the bed
    Angels pacing
    Gently placing
    Roses 'round her head

This song is window into the sad life of heroin users. Grant Hart was, and still my be, addicted to herion (check out his song All of My Senses from his solo album for a flip side to this version of heroin use). And tho these lyric are sad, when combined w/ the musical onslaught of Husker Du at the time it's more like being woken up after passing out in an alley by a punch to the fucking gut. It's that good.

General Comment:It's about a guy freaking out because a girl he's with ODs and is unconscious and not breathing. Pink turning to blue refers to her lips or skin color...
