No I would not sleep in this bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And there'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
I am

Don't think that I can take another empty moment
Don't think that I can fake another hollow smile
It's not enough just to be sorry
Don't think that I could take another talk about it

Just like me you got needs
And they're only a whisper away
And we softly surrender
To these lives that we've tendered away

No I would not sleep in this bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And there'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
I am

Don't wanna be the one who turns the whole thing over
Don't wanna be somewhere where I just don't belong
Where it's not enough just be sorry

Don't you know I feel the darkness closing in
Tried to be more than me
And I gave till it all went away
And we've only surrendered
To the worst part of these winters we've made

No I would not sleep in this bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And there'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
I am

I am all that I'll ever be
When you - lay your hands
Over me but don't go weak on me now
I know that it's weak
But God help me I need this

I will not sleep in this bed of lies
So toss me out and turn in
And there'll be no rest for these tired eyes
I'm marking it down to learning
I'm marking it down to learning
'Cause I am

Memory:Several years back, I was in a children's shelter (long story) and a friend of mine gave me her Matchbox Twenty CD to listen to when I was there. This was probably the hardest time in my life, and that CD truly kept me sane. Some of their music really reminds me of loneliness now, though. Still an amazing band.

General Comment:I always assumed that this song was about the Girl being the one that was the lying, false, pretentious type and finally the Guy can't stand it. The line that really suggest this to me is "Don't think that I can take another empty moment" He has been going with it and faking smiles and is pretending too, but I feel the Girl is really deluted and not at all thinking about the eventually downfall of their relationship.

In my imagination, the Girl is fake and the Guy see that this relationship is not going to last..."It's not enough just to be sorry, Don't think that I could take another talk about it"

It's over and the Guy isn't going to just sleep like nothings wrong anymore...

    That's my take anyways.

General Comment:I could be totally off... But I really started feeling a connection with this song when I caught my ex cheating on me. The feeling of not being enough for that person, yet trying to do everything to please them. It's so hard to deal with when you know nothing you do can ever "fix" that mental image of them being with someone else.

    General Comment:love this song

this song is about a couple in a relationship where they both know that it is wrong, that they really don't belong with each other and have been faking it.

'Don't think that I can take another empty moment
Don't think that I can fake another hollow smile'

    AND

Just like me, you've got needs
And they're only a whisper away
    And we softly surrender
To these lives that we've tendered awa

Singer has decided he won't fake it anymore but he doesn't want to rock the boat by expressing it but he really wants to:

Don't wanna be the one who turns the whole thing over
Don't wanna be somewhere where I just don't belong'

as the song progresses we see the struggle where he finds it hard to break it off and basically admits to needing her
I am all that I'll ever be
    When you lay your hands
    Over me
He also wants her to end it, he is weak and he needs her to be stronger and do it
But don't go weak on me, please
    I know that it's weak
But God help me, I need this

And again he seems to want her to take the initiative and end it herself because it would be easier that way ( its almost like he is begging her to do it because he isn’t strong enough):

'So toss me out and turn in'

And finally singer has acknowledged this whole process as being a learning experience

Seems to be a theme of over dependence whether by both parties or by one

    BEST GROUP IN THE WORLD

General Comment:I see it a little differently. I think it's about two people who are just friends and are sleeping together but one of them wants more and the other knows it, but can't make himself stop even though he knows it's wrong. All she has to do is touch him and he will come back over, but he is trying to tell her that he won't stay and sleep in the bed because it's all lies and he just wants her for the one thing.

General Comment:I think elenaki summed it up nicely. I like these lyrics:

Don't think that I can take another empty moment
Don't think that I can fake another hollow smile

I tried to be more than me
And I gave until it all went away

I also like how he's calling it a learning experience.

But my absolute favorite lyric is :

    I know that it's weak
But God help me, I need this

I think this can relate to anything. To any type of crutch a person has that they know it makes them weak to need it, but they just can't help it.

General Comment:I think that this is written from the perspective of a person (either gender) who is sick of being who they are not for their Significant Other. I am going through a divorce right now, and this is an extremely fitting song for me with this whole mess......

General Comment:The thing about Matchbox Twenty is that the songs Rob writes are so easy to relate to.
Everyone has a band that seems to write about them and their lives.
    Any breakup.
    Any relationship.
    Any situation.
    Its rather amazing.
I just got Mad Season yesterday.
Pretty sure I'm in love with it.
Anyway- this song is as everyones saying- the relationship is turning into a lie and he doesn't think he can stand it any longer...
But he really wishes he could.

General Comment:I think that this song is about being in a relationship in which you know that it's a dead end, but you're scared, because you think that you'll never get anyone else, and that you are nothing without them, but something has to give. Love this Song!
