Lyrics for Instant Karma as interpreted by kevin

Instant Karma Lyrics
Instant karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you're gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin' to do
It's up to you, yeah you

Instant karma's gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
Better get yourself together darlin'
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin' at fools like me
Who in the hell d'you think you are
A super star
Well, right you are

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Ev'ryone come on

Instant karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you off your feet
Better recognize your brothers
Ev'ryone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you're ev'rywhere
Come and get your share

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Come on and on and on on on
Yeah yeah, alright, uh huh, ah

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
On and on and on on and on

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun

I think the "superstar" line ruins the song. So lame. It could've been great.

I always use "We all shine on / Like the moon and the stars and the sun" as my inspirational quote when I need one. I absolutely adore John Lennon. I only wish he could have lived during my generation, too.

I had maybe heard "Instant Karma!" once or twice before...but I got a copy of "The John Lennon Collection" and when this song started, it was a musical revelation for me. Hearing him strain his voice to belt out, "We all shine on...", gives me chills.

I have to strongly disagree with "Bite Me" on the "superstar" line. Try and think about where John Lennon was at this time...surrounded by the material and superfical rich and famous. I see that line as mocking those type of people...who want fame and fortune over and other good things in life..."Well alright, you are..."

7 idiots already. John made this song about Paul to insult him.

speaking of insults....Philadelphia Eagles is a grand one for people who call themselves Lennon fans...

i thought it was a stab at the 'fast food' nation and how even the most spiritual and all powerful force of Karma is now offerd in 'Instant' form like coffee etc.. Interested in the Mc Cartney theory if anyone can elaborate

I always wondered, if he worried so much about Karma, then what was he doing cheating on his wife? By the way I am a big fan, and not a Yoko hater, per say. I'm pretty indifferent to Yoko. I just always found it hypocritical to be singing about karma like that. Also if anyone knows more about the John vs. Paul theory I'd like to hear too.

John and Paul had a pretty brutal falling out by the time the Beatles were finished. There's a quote from John, in which he said he would trade Paul for two Georges. They were very competitive...which I suppose is a good thing, because it fueled all the great music they made. I recently watched a video clip of Paul being interviewed on the day that John was shot. He seemed to be borderline indifferent....but that could just be my interpretation. Anyway...while the thought that this song is about Paul is possible, overall it seems to be more of a general message.

I've no idea baout the Paul V.S John theory, but the personal message to me in this song about people who are too up their own arses to appreciate the good things in life, and that everybody is your brother - there's no such thing as a super star, except for in your own mind, because we all shine on.

right after john was shot and paul was interviewed and said something offhand like "it's a drag", he's obviously very upset and pissed off that the media is making such a circus out of his close friend's death. thats the reason for his curtness. after all that history together (no matter what animosity they might have had before between them), does anyone really think he could have actually been that non-chalant?

I'd like to think the 'superstar' line is a bit of self-critisism.

Here's a fast fact - Did you know that Stephen King altered the title and wording to his book "The Shining" after being inspired by John's lines, "Yeah we all shine on!"?

for the person saying that lennon cheated on yoko, if you have read anything about john's 'lost weekend' (much longer than a weekend), you would know that yoko coerced john's lover into taking him off to have some fun, it just backfired and took much longer than yoko anticipated, btw, in a book I read about John, written by someone close to his career, said that this song was part of the fued between john and paul. the line 'laughing in the face of love' is speaking about the way that paul felt about yoko, when paul felt that it was just a fling, furthermore, the song is about how commercialized paul had gotten, while john was more into making the world as one, kind of telling him that he lost track of the impact they were able to make on the vietnam generation about loving your fellow people

instant karma can translate into an anti drug and religious song by hinting that religion is like a drug

infact i think that, very little of the song is about drugs, its just that the song is and sounds so cool
that gives it a drug-like experiance feel to it

Instant Karma = Bible ?
