So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Livin' for today
Ah
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Livin' life in peace
You
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Livin' for today
Ah
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Livin' life in peace
You
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I highly doubt people today would part with their precious possessions like their xbox and iphone, stupid commie crap
@martina100 This was my comment
The song written above is one of the most idiotic lyrics ever made. Not that its a bad melody, but this is John Lennon were talking about, one of the four Beatles. ALL those guys knew how to write a melody. And of course it probably isn't a good idea to take your world advice from a man who married Yoko Ono. The song is a moral monstrosity that only an idiot who smoked too much weed in the college dorms could relate too. Now don't get me wrong I love John Lennon, but the guy took too much PCP and ACID and this song is the abomination that came of it, a hulking pile of shit that makes Justin Bieber look like Beethoven.

This song is nothing but moral spew, and arguing with anyone who actually thinks this song is meaningful is a waste of both your time and your brain power. What to I mean? Well to start lets look at the lyrics:

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

Okay so what he just said is one of the most immoral things you could possible say, and I should know, I've said most of them. I'm talking to you up there in the comments you fucking mouth-breathers! Anyway, "Everyone living for today" is basically means you don't plan for the future, you don't care about your kids, you don't care about what happens tomorrow, and you don't care about anyone else. You just care about you, and its the most selfish morality possible. If everyone just lived for today they'd fuck everything in sight and kill people they don't like. The reason for this is because if your just living for today what happens tomorrow doesn't matter. If there's no punishments, if there's no reward of punishment in this life or after then all that matters is what's good for me at that moment, right now.

In all this right here could some up the entire American and European Democratic party with this way of thinking. Its basically their morality in a nutshell, and they think its beautiful when in reality its an ugly fucking joke.

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you

No religion? What the fuck are you talking about John? Are you saying that religion is the cause of all the world's ills? Well I hate to break it too you but that's fucking stupid. Communism and Autism murdered 100,000,000 people in the century this schlock was written. And to anyone who says that every communist state wasn't TRUE communism, your a fucking idiot. What the fuck? Stop making excuses. Its a failed system that bankrupts a country, the only reason why Asian communist countries still work is because they gave up on socialist economic systems and work with Capitalism. Pure Communism sucks and its never and will never work. Now what was I saying?(oh God I need a pizzaroll) Oh yeah. So at the time this was written China was busy executing millions of people and have continued since. Also the line of "Nothing to kill or die for" Really? What about the torture and murder of children? Is that worth killing or dying for? I guess not in John's fucked up world. How about the murder of 100,000 people? No? Well fuck.Turns out in this happy dappy little land that he's talking about where everyone's nice to everyone, this just assumes a goodness to human nature that just doesn't exist. The Left where these stupid ideas come from just assumes that all people are inherently good. Well I got news for you, people are assholes! All people are not inherently good, and anyone who's ever met a child knows this. I mean seriously, children may be innocent but their not good. Everyone assumes kids are good but their not, their selfish. I have a daughter and I love her but she's selfish and if she doesn't get what she wants she fuses and cries, and she lashes out. And the reason why is because she's a kid, and kids are just baby humans. Humans are all like this, their not all good and their not all bad. Their capable of both.

But most importantly humans are naturally not civilized. Civilization is necessary for humans as a species. You have to have cultures and morality that is taught. And if you just left everyone on their own in a field like in primitive times they'd all kill each other. The murder rate in primitive societies was enormous, and nothing was developed because there was no civilization and there wasn't any religion. The noble savage that John Lennon was preaching was from the most highly civilized society in history up to that point. Its amazing that all these people live of the fruits of a civilization that is absolutely contrary to their values and then they stupidly suggest that if you just rip away the civilization then NOTHING will change. Again I should just dismiss this because the man married Yoko Ono.That ALONE shows that he was high off his ass. Stop pretending the man is Hippie JESUS. (Jesus, I'm so sorry for mentioning you in this review. I know you hated this song you told me) Well, I guess we'll go through one more stanza before I throw myself out a window.

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you

Well first off the biggest problem is that he's not the only one. You've got about over 100,000,000 people who think this garbage is enlightening, and that's just in the United States alone. Another funny thing is that John Lennon sings about no possessions...as he's singing in big ass house. Not very self-aware is he? And to further cement his own stupidity he calls for a brotherhood a man, something that has never happened and never will. No possessions? WHAAAAT? This is something that the Left is pushing for today. J.A. Mirorson even said that we should abolish private property. And his reasoning for this was that is because when the Wombanowa tribe meet the Pilgrims and the Pilgrims claimed their land, the Wombanowa came across it and the Pilgrims said "This is our land" The tribes said "What a minute, we don't do stuff like land ownership." Mirorson then said that the tribe was right and that we don't have any good reason to not just share the land. Well I have a good reason why we should share the land, its called several thousand years of no human development, and then suddenly WESTERN CIVILIZATION. These jokers didn't even have a concept of a fucking wheel. What the fuck? The idea of private land leads to the idea of labor and owning what you produce, and these are some of the greatest goods discovered by civilization. Without it we'd all still be hunter/gatherer nomad peoples with no history and we'd all die at 30 if it wasn't for civilization and property ownership, and the incentive that you OWN what you PRODUCE.

In the end I guess I'm just trying to say that Imagine is the peak of childish theosophy, and it bleeds down to the little kiddies. This something that you'd hear from a third grader, but Leftists think that its such deep thinking. They think that the ideas that come from 7 year old kids is the depth of human understanding. And it really is evil. because you shouldn't take your moral advise from small children. You shouldn't but that's what this is. My daughter is 5 and I'm sure I'll probably hear this from her soon and I'll sadly have to inform her that life isn't fair, and people do bad things. Those to realities destroy everything that John Lennon was talking about. "Life isn't fair" and "People do bad shit". And as soon as people acknowledge these two basic facts of the world NONE of this song makes any sense. But Leftist believe in this fantasy and they think it would come true if it weren't for the evil republicans getting in the way with their pesky reality. But luckily reality always steps in and intervenes, which is both the good news and the bad news, because the bad news is that usually when reality steps in tens of millions of people die for stupid garbage like this. Peace the fuck out.
