Lyrics for Child In Time as interpreted by insurgento

Child In Time Lyrics
Sweet child in time you'll see the line
The line that's drawn between the good and the bad
See the blind man shooting at the world
Bullets flying taking toll
If you've been bad, Lord I bet you have
And you've been hit by flying lead
You'd better close your eyes and bow your head
And wait for the ricochet

There's definitely a good and bad thing here, possibly about getting what you deserve after doing something bad.

It's about the vietnam war the USA started back in 1965, they wrote a song about it.

the blind man is the USA in this case.

lovely song. love gillian's voice especially in this song. the guy can really scream but it sounds damn good!! he can really give robert plant a run for his money!! ^_^

it's got damn good lyrics too! i never thought of the blind man as the USA but now that i think of it, it makes perfect sense. it's really cool!!

I always thought this song was about someone getting put to death by being shot.
"You'd better close your eyes and bow your head

wow....i misinterpreted many of Gillan's words. I thought it was "you can't get here by flying there" and "lying strong between good and bad". These lyrics make a lot more sense. I agree with the vietnam interpretations. They fit perfectly. Gillan is awesome.

You probably are, but I don't know, bizter.

All I know is that this song, live, is one of the best songs I have ever heard. On the album I don't really like it that much.

I have two oppinions on this. I might be an anti-war song, but i'd say that its about the Soviet-Afgani war rather than the US war in Vietnam. Also, more likelly, this song is about his daughter getting shot by a lunatic on the street. That can be confirmed if the album art of Gillan's latter band is taken into consideration. It depicts a young girl in a pyramid carying a ribbon that says child in time. I'd certanly go with the daughter version

Bizter, whomever told you that had it or got it given to them wrong, I assure you.
The track is based on a slowed down version of a song by an old band called It's A Beautiful Day titled "Bombay Calling". The story goes that Lord liked to tinker around with the basic structure of this song and came up with the slow, haunting riff over which Ian Gillan improvised some lyrics that he'd been fooling with since his days with Episode Six (the band he left to join DP in June of 1969). Given the anti-war sentiments of the day, the track has certainly garnered it's fair share of attention in that regard through the years. Gillan's operatic singing on this track is simply unmatchable and I can't imagine any other vocalist in the world at that time - hell, maybe even still! - delivering the performance Gillan did. Blackmore's solo in the middle of the song is one of his all time best, the magicis that he plays it on his old Gibson - not the legendary Strat!
An All-Time Rock Classic!

is it my version or are the lyrics:

And you've NOT been hit
By flying lead

as well as the lines said during the wailing sections aren't there

Yeah you're right Flik.

I think the blind man shooting at the world is a metaphor for us detroying the world.

"If you've not been hit.....wait for the ricochet" basically means that even if you're not paying for it now, you will eventually - it will all come back to you.

This is one of those ten minute songs that just fly by. I absolutely love this song. Gillan's screams are so intense...oooh....I've never heard anything like it. So good. I can listen to this song over and over again.

WokCreations -->"If you've not been hit.....wait for the ricochet" basically means that even if you're not paying for it now, you will eventually - it will all come back to you. That's exactly what I thought, too.

Wow. An absolutely amazing piece of music.

Amazing... my all time fav. DP song. If Zeppelin has "Stairway to Heaven" and Queen has "Bohemian Rhapsody".. then DP has this one and personally i take this one over the former mentioned songs on any day of the week. The solo is one of Blackmore's best and its my fav. solo of all time.
Simply maginificent!!!!
