Lyrics for Night Moves as interpreted by kevin

Night Moves Lyrics
I was a little too tall
Could've used a few pounds
Tight pants points hardly reknown
She was a black haired beauty with big dark eyes
And points all her own sitting way up high
Way up firm and high

Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy
Out in the back seat of my '60 Chevy
Workin' on mysteries without any clues
Workin' on our night moves
Trying' to make some front page drive-in news
Workin' on our night moves in the summertime
In the sweet summertime

We weren't in love oh no far from it
We weren't searching for some pie in the sky summit
We were just young and restless and bored
Living by the sword
And we'd steal away every chance we could
To the backroom, the alley, the trusty woods
I used her she used me
But neither one cared
We were getting our share

Workin' on our night moves
Trying to lose the awkward teenage blues
Workin' on out night moves
In the summertime
And oh the wonder
Felt the lightning
And we waited on the thunder
Waited on the thunder

I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing in

Wow... How can I say what this song means to me. I live across the river from Detroit, about a half-hour from where this song was recorded. Each and every time I hear this song, I am immediately transported to one particular time in my life. It was summer of 1985. My girlfriend at the time and I had been at a festival downtown and I kinda brought up the idea of looking at engagement rings. It was my way of proposing. She said yes, and we browsed, I found one, and bought it. Much later that night, I dropped her off, and began my 25 minute ride home. I was in my Dad's 1973 Plymouth Valiant. 2 A.M, at the intersection of Caron Avenue and Riverside Drive. The Detroit skyline off to my left. Christ it was hot. Muggy. The smell of new summer in the air. I have heard Seger perform this live, I have heard it on my zillion-dollar home stereo system, but it never sounded better to me than it did on that AM car radio. The DJ said "CKWW, Radio 580, it's 2 o'clock". Those rich strummed chords, and that husky voice. I sang along, on top of the world. My girl said "yes", and all was right with the world. I am still married to that same girl. We've been through deaths, births, 3 or 4 cars, some fancy vacations, a couple of houses, and that song is still something I hold near to my heart. Seger was right. Indeed... funny how you remember.
Peace.

This is probably Bob Seger reminiscing about his teenaged years, mianly about this girl and his relationship. They were far from being in love, but they seemed to just click with each other, and they got by with each other, at least for that summer...strange how the night moves, huh?

Nostaglia of teenage love. Brings back memories of high school, which wasn't too long ago but it's easily forgotten. Summers without consequences when everything is more exciting. How sweet is that?

Seger has one of the best Rock voices I've ever heard. Beautiful song.

I think he is kinda saying how fast things go when you are carefree. Sort of like during high school summers when you have nothing to do and you just have no care in the world. Then he closes by saying, "with autumn closing in". I think that means like you know the times gonna end, so your just gonna live it up now while you have the chance...

I think it's pretty self-explanatory what it's about...but damn...when the backup singers kick in about 3/4 through the song...straight power.

quite possibly my favorite song EVER. it's just wonderful to listen to. it's just so poetic:

Out in the back seat of my '60 Chevy
Workin' on mysteries without any clues
Workin' on our night moves
Trying' to make some front page drive-in news

ohhhhh my god. brilliant song writing. i think the key is that everyone who experienced being a teenager has a pleasant memory like that, and this song can bring it back for them.

I've heard that this is about Bob Segar losing his virginity. It's a great song about being confused, vulnerable, and all the other feelings of being a teenager. Love it. The lyrics still ring true today for teenagers such as myself.

This is me and my boyfriends song....In the summer of 03' we had first gotten together when we were ''young restless and bored'' and being so young and stupid we decided to be friends...and ever since then we had this unspoken feeling about each other and we always found ourselves coming back to each other for 3 years but the timing was always wrong because we had different relationships always going...Weve seen each other through everything, ive never felt such a selfless understanding compassionate love in my life...and I have a really good feeling about this time...I love you mario! :-*

I love this song, it reminds me of summer nights on the beach in Falmouth with friends. So many great memories of mine are attached to this song, and Bob Seger in general. Great artist, and this is probly his best song.

and THIS- is the heart of America. It's everything. It's every coming of age portrayed through music. I can't even take it. Everyone has a story that pops up with this song. Summer. and love. And teenage. And young and restless and bored. And thunder. And autumn. I guess I started crying just thinking about it all. wow. Ahhhhhhhhh

What a voice, what imagery, gets you through the devastation of break-up because Bob had it even worse, and he sang it out, as artists do.

And points all her own sitting way up high
Way up firm and high
THAT'S HOT to quote Paris H

This song absolutely KILLS me. There's NOTHING else like it. It brings a feel of sweet nostalgia from days ago...and also perfectly describes the situation i'm in right now. He's a lot younger than me and inexperienced. He's moving far away, but it was sure as hell fun while it lasted...

"We weren't in love oh no far from it
We weren't searching for some pie in the sky summit
We were just young and restless and bored
Living by the sword
And we'd steal away every chance we could
To the backroom, the alley, the trusty woods
I used her she used me
But neither one cared
We were getting our share"

Ahhhh...sweet sweet summertime. Drunken summer nights and sweet lovin'. Makes me cry too...

"We weren't in love oh no far from it
We weren't searching for some pie in the sky summit
We were just young and restless and bored"

"Trying to lose the awkward teenage blues
Workin' on out night moves
In the summertime
And oh the wonder"

I think at one time we have all been there just bored and trying to find someone just to be with someone....beautiful songs

I remember a friend putting this on a turntable, telling another guy to listen to the lyrics. The second guy said, "Is it about f***** girls?" "Yeah", the first guy admitted, deflated. "How did you know?" "All Bob Seger songs are about that."

I love Bob Seger as a song writer and singer. This song has always appealed to me, since I was 15 or 16 years old. It's definitely about teenage years, growing up, experiencing a girl for the first time, making mistakes, and everything else that is great about being an adolescent. Recently, the song gained more importance and significance for me. I spent a couple of summers ago working at a ranch out west and met a girl. Needless to say, we got to know each other, liked each other, and had some good times. The lyrics "I used her, she used me, but neither one cared, we were getting our share" really appealed to me after that experience. We were all 'hot and heavy' at the ranch, but once we went our separate ways, the flame died. I soon learned that we indeed used each other to each get something out of it, to each get what we wanted. I don't regret it at all. I'm glad that I can always listen to this song to take me back to that summer. "Ain't it funny how you remember?" Bob Seger is THE MAN!!!

I love this song so much , I don't have one specific memory associated with it , I just think of all the fun and good times in my life when I hear this song. I don't know about anyone else but I get chills everytime you hear the part about autumn closing in and then the guitar starts and Bob starts humming and then says Night Moves. l will always love this song

I love this song. I hate this song. I love it because it has such an awesome groove, so laid back and easy to enjoy, and also the lyrics, at times, are rather hilarious (points all her own, way up high - if you don't understand that line, well, you're probably too young to understand ;)

But I hate it because, ultimately, it is a depressing song. It is someone living in the past. Not just reminiscing in nostalgia, but someone obsessed with the past and remembering how it was so much better back then. I don't like songs that make me live in the past. I prefer to live for today and tomorrow.

Nevertheless, I must admit I don't turn the radio station when it comes on .. I let myself plunge into my own memory, good and bad, while I drive to a classic oldie :)

This song is about loss of innocence. I believe it has double meaning. The two of them "gettin' it on" in the cornfields"...but ALSO The Assassinations the War in Vietnam Wargergate...OK not AIDS b/c it was written before the epidemic.

Why do I say this?? "1962." Like Frankie Vallie and "Animal House" this song was set before America hit the fan.

this song to me means that basically, you never forget the first person you were 'in love' with. what i mean by that is, you feel like you love the person in that moment, but looking back on your past makes you realize that it was only destined to be short-lived...in most cases. sure some people outlast the whole 'high-school' romance thing and some don't but i'm saying as a whole, they are mostly short-lived

what can be said about bob seger as a musician that would bring justice to his music. absolutely nothing. his talent leaves me speechless when i think about it. people my age don't appreciate such a great songwriter. he is one of the best lyricists american rock has produced, ever. his ability to paint a picture and tell a story with a song is astounding. i saw the man in concert in early 2007. grey hair and everything....he still rocks just as hard as on "live bullet". this song in particular is so cut and dry. about two young lovers, losing their innocence and enjoying each other's company but not taking it too seriously. and isnt it funny how you remember?

oh, and drpoundsign is insane if he really thinks all that.
