    General Comment:To me, its basically telling a guy or girl to just go for it. You know, go big or go home. There's no time like the present, and like the song says...don't let things get away. Ya never wanna wonder "what if"

    My Interpretation:We used to cover this song. If you listen closer, you will note that the rhythm is very complex. The song alternates between accents played right on time and one sixteenth ahead. Kudos to Alex for keeping this thing together, by the way.
    During rehearsals, I always found that the lyrics are in several parts just Sammy mocking the instrumentalists for not getting it right:

    "One step ahead, one step behind me
    Now you gotta run to get even"
    ...
    "Miss the beat, you lose the rhythm,
    And nothing falls into place, no
    Only missed by a fraction,
    Slipped a little off your pace, oh,"

    And there's always "Turn this thing around" as the pace is changing. In many ways, this is a sublime blend of music and lyrics.

    General Comment:Probably sounds stupid, but this song is really motivational to me and reminds me (metaphorically) of a little kid disabling an Earth-destroying nuke! "gotta turn this thing around..." i know it sounds stupid...

    General Comment:This is probably my favorite song of all time as well. I use this song as a motivation tool to achieve success, and it has helped me in this regard. Basically what the song is about (for me at least) is to seize the moment (carpe diem), and not worry about the future or the past. You've got to achieve NOW. You've got to be the best you can be.

    this song gives me hope that there are other people in the world, besides me, who are just as impulsive with their feelings as i am...and that i'm not the only hopeless romantic left. this is the way this song makes me feel, not sure why...but seeing and hearing this song live in concert made me feel all the more hopeful.


    van halen have a few songs give me the same feelings... they are really awesome musicians, and their words are great too. never miss the beat.

    General Comment:Just like most Van Halen tunes, this track was written years earlier. Eddie used parts of the music for the soundtrack to the movie, "Wild Life."
