Lyrics for No Womanm No Cry as interpreted by kevin

No Womanm No Cry Lyrics
No woman no cry
no woman no cry
no woman no cry
no woman no cry
Say I remember when we used to sit
in the government yard in Trenchtown
Ob- observing all the hypocrites
as they'd mingle with the good people we met
Good friends we had and good friends we lost
along the way
in this bright future
you can forget your past
so dry your tears I say.
no woman no cry
no woman no cry

Hey little darling don't shed no tears
no woman no cry
I remember when we used to sit
in the government yard in Trenchtown
and then georgie would make a fire light
as it was love wood burning through the night
and we would cook wholemeal porridge
of which I'd share with you
my feet is my only carriage
so I've got to push on through
but while I'm gone (I mean it)
ev'rything's gonna be alright
ev'rything's gonna be alright
ev'rything's gonna be alright
ev'rything's gonna be alright
ev'rything's gonna be alright
ev'rything's gonna be alright
ev'rything's gonna be alright
ev'rything's gonna be alright
No woman no cry
No woman no cry
Oh my little sister don't shed no tears
no woman no cry

"no woman no cry" should be translated "no woman, don't cry" as though he is telling a woman not to cry, and that even though they live in povert things are ok.

you are all morons lol. after going down to jamaica i met a cover band and they explained to me that "no woman, no cry" means "no woman, don't cry." actually listen to the song before you act like you know everything.

i personally, don't think "no woman no cry" is a love song, however, I know enough about bob to know that "is this love" is.

"Oh my little sister don't shed no tears"
I can't believe the fact that "no woman no cry" means "no woman, don't cry" (as it's been translated to previously on this page) wasn't completely obvious to everyone.

when I heard the studio version of this song i couldn't believe how fast and upbeat it is compared to the live version most people are familiar with.. Have to say the live version is much better, it works better as a sad song.

1st of all he say's log wood, not love wood. He's talking about how Georgie would keep a fire lit as Bob and his friends played music till the early hours of the morining. 2nd of all it's corn meal porridge not wholemeal porridge. And finally Bob didn't even write the song, his childhood brethren Vincet Ford AKA Tarter wrote the song for Bob.

This is my first time viewing this lyric, and I'm glad to see that many others before me have noted that "no woman no cry" is a sort of Jamaican contraction, equivalent to "no, woman, don't cry."

As many have pointed out, the lyrics 'no woman, no cry' of course mean 'no woman, don't cry'. The rest of the lyrics make that painfully obvious.

He had foot cancer, due to his religious beliefs, he would not have it amputated and it spread to his brain and lungs. I believe the "official" cause is the lung cancer. But either way it was cancer.

This song is about the life in Trenchtown, once I saw an entreview with Bob's mother and she said that Bob told her this song was dedicated to her and all the things she had gone through.
